WWE: Five potential opponents for the returning Seth Rollins
Daniel Bryan
When Daniel Bryan returned from his hiatus in October 2020, the first person to greet him was Seth Rollins.
Rollins, now fully entrenched in his “messiah” gimmick proposed that he and Bryan should link up and mold SmackDown according to the image Rollins had in mind — think of every movie where a villain tells the hero “you know, you and I aren’t so different” and that sums up how this segment went.
Ultimately, the segment served to continue the well-past expired feud between Rollins, Rey Mysterio, Dominik Mysterio, and Murphy, but it also planted the seeds for what could be an interesting story between Rollins and Bryan (this is the part where I note that Bryan was the one who chased off Rollins after the latter attacked Cesaro on this past week’s SmackDown).
Given that both wrestlers both claim to have a clear-but-contrasing vision for what the future of SmackDown — and by extension, the WWE — should look like, having the two of them fight over what that future becomes could foster months of entertaining television via quality matches and promos.
Who knows, if Bryan doesn’t ultimately face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 37, jumpstarting a feud with “The Architect” over what the foundation of SmackDown should be would be a more than acceptable consolation prize.
