AEW Dynamite Predictions for February 24, 2021

AEW Dynamite is back with six announced matches for their Feb. 24 show. Included in these matches is a semi-final tilt on the American side of the AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament and a Face of the Revolution Ladder Match Qualifier.

We will also hear from Sting, just one week after taking a nasty powerbomb from Brian Cage.  With his and Darby Allin’s street fight against Cage and Ricky Starks just under two weeks away, it will be interesting to see what Sting has to say about being on the receiving end of some physicality for the first time since making his debut in AEW.

Here is a look at the announced match card and what to expect:

“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Isiah Kassidy

Ahead of the Big Money Match with Matt Hardy at Revolution, “Hangman” Agam Page will take on one half of Private Party when he tangles with Isiah Kassidy.

Kassidy is on Page’s “list” due to the sneak attack that Kassidy pulled off against Page while dressed as the Jacksonville Jaguars mascot last week. Since coming under the tutelage of “Big Money Matt”, Private Party has found a mean streak, and it has led them to some high-profile matches both in AEW and in Impact Wrestling.

Hardy’s involvement in this contest is a given. But his involvement will not be enough to derail Page against Kassidy.

This match will further this storyline leading to the pay-per-view while intensifying the intersecting rivalries and friendships. Page will pick up the win over Kassidy prior to falling victim to the numbers game after, suffering another beatdown. Dark Order will once again make the save for Page, planting the seeds in Page’s mind that a relationship with the group might be different than the one he experienced with The Elite. Winner: Adam Page

Brian Cage & Ricky Starks vs The Varisty Blondes

Two of Team Taz’s founding members will get a tuneup opponent in the form of Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison, collectively known as The Varsity Blondes.

The Varsity Blondes have looked good in their past appearances on Dynamite. They have nice chemistry as a team and are athletic enough to give Cage and Starks fits.

Garrison and Pillman could become stalwarts of AEW’s tag team division in the future, but the present belongs to Cage and Starks. This match will be competitive, but in the end, there is no other acceptable outcome besides a Team Taz win.

The question is: Will Darby Allin and Sting hit the ring after the match, looking for retribution for the pain inflicted upon them by Team Taz over the last two weeks? The smart money says yes. After the match, look for the good guys to get some payback on the bullies. Winners: Brian Cage & Ricky Starks

Jake Hager vs. Brandon Cutler

AEW Dark regular, Brandon Cutler, will look to make the most of a rare match on Dynamite when he goes up against Inner Circle enforcer, Jake Hager.

This match came about last week after Cutler tried to save The Young Bucks from a beating at the hands of The Inner Circle. When Cutler came out to attempt to help, Hager flattened him before he could even hit the ring.

This match shouldn’t last long. Cutler has some ability, but this match is on the card to further the story between The Young Bucks and The Inner Circle heading into Revolution. Cutler will get a little offense in, as AEW rarely does a full squash match, but Hager should secure the win within 5 minutes. Winner: Jake Hager

Jon Moxley vs. Ryan Nemeth

Much like the Hager/Cutler match, this one should be a short encounter. If ever there was a time to do a true squash match, this would be it.  The highlight of this match will be the scathing promo that Mox cuts on Kenny Omega after he disposes of Nemeth. Winner: Jon Moxley

Britt Baker vs. Nyla Rose

Having secured wins on Monday over Madi Wrenkowski and Tay Conti, respectively, Britt Baker and Nyla Rose will clash for the right to move on to the semifinals on the American side of the Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament.

The last time Rose and Baker were in the ring together, they teamed up to take on Hikaru Shida and Kris Statlander on the May 20 episode of Dynamite. This was also the match that put Baker on the shelf with a knee injury (she later identified Rose as a “conspirator” who helped cause her injury).

Now back and healthy, Baker’s run to Hikaru Shida and the AEW Women’s World Title will go directly through The Native Beast, in a rare matchup of the top two female heels in AEW.

The sheer physicality of Rose should be enough to take out Britt Baker and send her on to meet the winner of Riho and Thunder Rosa, but this is Baker’s time. She will either use some sort of interference from Rebel (or, as Baker calls her, “Reba”) to secure the win or score a victory via count-out or DQ. This will allow Baker to advance while keeping Rose strong moving forward in a continually improving women’s division. Winner: Britt Baker

Rey Fenix vs. Lance Archer

In what should be the main event of the card, Rey Fenix and Lance Archer will do battle to secure a spot in the Face of the Revolution ladder match.

Fenix is built for ladder matches. His high-flying style and at-times reckless approach are exactly what makes a ladder match so much fun to watch.

That said, Archer has been booked really well the past month. He has been a regular in Dynamite main events and has looked like a monster every step of the way.

The couple of losses that Archer has suffered recently were both the result of shady antics by his opponents. Since Fenix is currently a babyface, it’s hard to imagine him using those types of tactics to beat Archer.

While my heart wants Fenix will pick up the win, my mind is leaning towards Archer. “The Murderhawk Monster” has shown in recent matches his own ability to fly. Coupling his size and athleticism with a ring full of ladders might make for some fun TV as well. As a result, look for Archer to take care of Fenix to close out Dynamite.  Winner: Lance Archer
