WWE SmackDown Predictions: Edge Will Deceive Roman Reigns
By Mark Justice
On this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, there are neither scheduled segments nor scheduled matches. Daniel Bryan won the Universal Title Number One Contender’s Elimination Chamber Match this past Sunday and immediately lost to Roman Reigns in a Universal Title match. Afterward, Edge, the 2021 Royal Rumble winner, selected Roman Reigns as his WrestleMania 37 opponent. According to WWE’s official website, this match is the only official match on this year’s WrestleMania card.
Indeed, the WWE has already kickstarted its road to WrestleMania 37 as it builds towards Fastlane. Like Elimination Chamber, Fastlane is another pivotal roadblock to Mania that could change who the champions are and what the potential matchups could be for the show. With that being said, it’s now time to preview and predict the matches and segments that will occur on this week’s episode of WWE SmackDown.
WWE SmackDown is scheduled to take place on February 26, 2021, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT live on FOX. Here are some predictions for this week’s show.
5.) Mysterios vs. Alpha Academy [Tag Match]
There is currently no clear number one contender for the Dirty Dawgs’ SmackDown Tag Team Championships. However, there are three duos in the SmackDown Tag Team Division that are chomping at the bit for a title shot: The Street Profits, The Mysterios, and The Alpha Academy (Otis and Chad Gable). In the past few weeks of SmackDown, Dirty Dawgs, Street Profits, and Mysterios all defeated Otis and Gable in tag team action. This means that Otis and Gable were the least likely to get tag title opportunities.
However, due to their frustration with their lack of momentum, Otis and Gable abruptly turned heel on the Mysterios on last week’s SmackDown. Their heel turn could also be explained by Gable’s recent teachings in the Alpha Academy for Otis to become the next Hokage. Nonetheless, this heel turn will likely lead to some positive momentum for Otis and Gable. They will turn their momentum back around with a victory over the Mysterios to solidify their turn.
Since all of the teams will eventually have momentum, it seems that the WWE could be building up to a Fatal-4-Way SmackDown Tag Team Championship match: Dirty Dawgs (c) vs. Street Profits vs. Otis & Gable vs. Mysterios. This title match will occur at either Fastlane or WrestleMania. If it’s the former, Dirty Dawgs will retain. If it’s the latter, Mysterios will have a good-feel WrestleMania moment as the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
Prediction: Alpha Academy
