AEW Revolution: three wrestlers who must win at the PPV

Given how well All Elite Wrestling (AEW) books most of its roster — from the main eventer stars to the “jobbers to the stars” — saying that anyone “must” win at the upcoming AEW Revolution pay-per-view seems like a bit of a stretch.

Still, some of the wrestlers taking part in this nine-match supercard need those W’s more than others, whether it’s as a means to advance whatever storyline they’re taking part in or to quell any concerns about their usage in Tony Khan’s nascent federation.

But which of those wrestlers need these wins? Well, that’s what we’re here to answer today.

3. So Cal Unsensored (Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian) in the Casino Battle Royal

While this hasn’t been at the forefront of AEW’s storylines recently, Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian — who make up two-thirds of So Cal Uncensored (SCU) with Scorpio Sky — are currently taking part in a storyline where the next match Daniels and Kazarian lose means the end of their lengthy and successful partnership.

Since AEW counts every match as part of a wrestler’s wn tally, that presumably includes this Casino Battle Royal, which featured 14 other tag teams besides SCU. Any of those duos would make for great opponents for current AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks (or Chris Jericho and Maxwell Jacob Friedman, should they win the titles at AEW Revolution), but those teams can afford to lose this match; SCU can’t.

2. Miro and Kip Sabian, specifically Miro

This spot is more for Miro than it is Kip Sabian. Since joining AEW last September, Miro (fka Rusev in WWE) has been stuck in something of a holding pattern as Sabian’s “best man”; yes, Tony Khan hasn’t pitched for Miro to have erectile dysfunction like Vince McMahon did, and Miro hasn’t tallied a crushing losing streak, but he still hasn’t reached the heights many thought he would when he joined the All Elite roster.

Winning this tag team match against Best Friends (Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor) wouldn’t change that narrative too much — especially if Sabian scored the deciding fall instead of Miro — but if Miro puts together a strong outing that ends with a decisive pinfall, it could put him back on that dominant track that fans expected him to be on when he arrived to the promotion.

Best Friends will be Best Friends whether they win or lose, but this one could determine what trajectory Miro will be on going forward.

1. Kenny Omega

Booking Jon Moxley to regain the AEW World Championship in this Barbed Wire Exploding Deathmatch wouldn’t be the worst decision AEW could make when laying out this spectacle of a main event match.

After all, Moxley has more than proven himself as a capable lead babyface for the promotion over the last year, and given that this match will likely bring this feud with Kenny Omega to an end, having Moxley vanquish his foe in what should be a bloodbath seems fitting.

However, it feels like AEW has long-term plans with Omega as champion, which could lead to Omega ultimately putting over “Hangman” Adam Page, which makes him winning here a necessity.

Considering the match, AEW will probably find a way to reach that goal while maintaining Moxley’s luster as a top attraction. Crafting a match where the the two are practically equals before the finish should accomplish that, but for the reasons mentioned, Omega has to be the one who barely comes out on top in the end.
