After first making his main roster debut in late 2005, Bobby Lashley has reached the status of WWE Champion nearly two decades later. This was a long time coming as we all had to wait a total of 16 years to see this accomplishment right before our eyes.

Lashley should have been WWE Champion several years ago. But looking back on his original run, Lashley has not been fully developed for the casual viewer to even care to see him as a top contender. Even his good feud and match against John Cena at The Great American Bash 2007 did not click with the viewers. Sure he had the look like a megastar, but when he was given the microphone he could not cut a promo out of a paper bag at that time.

Lashley left WWE in early 2008 and had his first stint in TNA Wrestling in 2009 while also competing in mixed martial arts. It was not until Lashley’s second run in TNA when things started to change for the better. He captured the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, X-Division, and King of the Mountain Championship. It was at this time that more of Lashley’s personality started to come to light while also being part of MVP’s Beat Down Clan.

When Lashley returned to WWE in 2018, fans were waiting to see him either become WWE Champion or have a potential dream match against Brock Lesnar. It would take a while, but Lashley became a member of The Hurt Business. There is something about Lashley and MVP together that is gold and I became a fan since day one. This led to Lashley winning the United States Championship, followed by the WWE Championship.

This win has made history as Lashley becomes the third African American to win the WWE Championship. Now that he is the champion, a potential match between him, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar could happen at WrestleMania. I am really happy that he is the champion. And I can also tell that MVP is very happy as well because he was with Shad Gaspard when they both watched Kofi Kingston win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. And now, he watched Bobby Lashley win the title in person and on his side.

This is one of the best moments in WWE to happen in 2021 and will be remembered for a long time. Even though it was overdue, Bobby Lashley is more ready for the main event spotlight than he was in 2007.
