Professional wrestling is filled with special talents. Men and women that make us sit back in our chairs and look for a cigarette after enjoying their performances in the ring. Rey Fenix is such an individual. The work that he is doing in All Elite Wrestling is something to behold and it builds an appreciation for everything he pulls off in the ring. While eyes are on Kenny Omega, Roman Reigns, Kota Ibushi, and others, we need to take a moment to recognize Fenix as an amazing performer.

At 30-years old, it is still something to realize that Fenix has been performing for 15 years. Much of the initial steps of his career were spent in Mexico and other areas, but the lucky fans that witnessed his work from 2017 to today were able to enjoy his growth into a must-see performer.

For a recent example, look back to the last three minutes of the Tag Team Battle Royal at AEW Revolution. What was mostly a match that did not require much attention, the minute Fenix and PAC stepped into the ring things picked up. In the last two-to-three minutes, he and Jungle Boy went at each other full-bore and gave viewers some of the best highlights of the entire show. That is just a microcosm of what Fenix does every time he is involved in the ring. His presence turns a match into “must-see” television, and as he is paired against the likes of Omega, Lance Archer, and others, seeing more of Fenix is never a bad thing.

It will be interesting to see how Fenix is leveraged in the future. While he and Pentagon have yet to obtain the AEW tag team titles, the duo seems to remain one moment outside being called top contenders. He and PAC are scheduled to be the next challengers, based on their victory at AEW Revolution – but it is hard to see them securing the titles from the Young Bucks at this time unless something changes soon.

But what about Fenix as a singles performer? Would fans get behind him in that role? His character exudes personality from bell-to-bell, but what about all the aspects of wrestling that happens in front of the camera, with a microphone in his hands? Fenix has not truly received the opportunity to show us what he can do in that position, but there are voices in professional wrestling that believe he can excel there as well. Imagine the matches that Fenix could put on as AEW champion, that is something the industry should get the opportunity to see in the future.

It is important to recognize and appreciate top talents while they are performing. Give them their flowers while they are around to accept them. For many, AEW is the first time they have had the opportunity to see Rey Fenix’s work. He does not disappoint, reminding wrestling fans with each outing that he is one of the best in the industry today.
