The return of the Fiend isn’t as exciting as WWE believes it to be
I do not like to be this person, but I have zero interest in anything that WWE has in stored for “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt.
Here is a character that is a hybrid of Mr. Rodgers with a dark monster behind the shadows that should have been a much bigger deal than it was. The look of The Fiend was great. The character has sold merchandise and gained strong fan support. He even had a customized WWE Universal Championship made for him that was on sale for nearly $7000.
But then, the bell rang. WWE booked The Fiend to lose high-profile matches for a very long time. The match against Goldberg at Super Showdown was a massive disaster. The feud with Braun Strowman did nothing to progress The Fiend. Sure, he won the Universal Championship again. But The Fiend lost the championship again to Roman Reigns a month later. It is safe to say that the fans were more interested in “The Tribal Chief” character than the cartoonish Fiend character.
Around this time, The Fiend was paired with Alexa Bliss. Although it is great to see Alexa Bliss have good character development, It has decreased my interest in The Fiend. Then came the TLC PPV and The Fiend was burnt to a crisp thanks to Randy Orton.
The Fiend would return at Fastlane with a different look and I just shook my head in disbelief. I do not care to see The Fiend vs. Randy Orton at WrestleMania. Why? because no matter who wins, what will they do with the character after that? WWE had Bray Wyatt talk up a big game for years dating back to 2013 and when the stage is set for him, it falls flat. The same thing then could happen at WrestleMania. If this was 1991 or 1997, you think Undertaker and Kane would accept that atrocity of booking? I do not think so.
So in conclusion, I am not thrilled to see a burned-up Fiend squaring off against Randy Orton.
