Impact Rebellion Takeaways: New Champions, and more!
Rebellion featured a lot of big moments. However, none were bigger though than Kenny Omega pinning Rich Swan to win the Impact World Championship. A lot of things happened tonight, here are the takeaways of tonight’s show.
Impact Rebellion Takeaways
Impact’s X-Division is in Good Hands with Josh Alexander
Josh Alexander won an incredible triple-threat match between himself, TJP, and now former champion, Ace Austin. The match from the start was very fast-paced in typical X-Division fashion. Ace Austin took control early on and showed why he was the champion and the guy to beat in the X-Division.
There was a very cool moment where Josh Alexander superplexed TJP off the top rope, and simultaneously Russian Leg Swept Ace Austin from the top as well. The match ended when Alexander hit Divine Intervention on Ace Austin to win. This was a very hard-fought match and more specifically showed why Alexander deserved the spot and opportunity.
W. Morrisey Makes an Impact
In the next match of the night, we saw Violent by Design take on James Storm, Eddie Edwards, Willie Mack, and Chris Sabin. Eric Young was supposed to wrestle but recently suffered an injury and couldn’t. His replacement, none other than W.Morrisey or you may know him better as CazXL.
Morrisey showed the world why he deserves to be out in that ring. After the match ended, which he won for his team, he continued beating up Willie Mack showing the intensity inside of the big man is real. Time will tell where things go from here, but one thing we know for sure, Morrisey is back.
Impact Has Stars in the Making with Brian Myers and Matt Cardona
The show also saw as many described as the explosion of the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast! Brian Myers picked up the victory after a roster cut on Matt Cardona. The ending saw Cardona suffer an injury and Myers fake help him up to be a good friend. Myers then turned on him. This match solidified Myers as one of the top heels with Impact. It also solidified Cardona as one of the top babyfaces in the company.
This leads us to ask, where do things go from here? Does the rivalry continue? This is the most likely option. However, will they ever turn Cardona heel and we get a reunion of sorts in Impact’s Tag Team Division. One thing we know for sure though is this match helped to make stars out of the former Tag Team Champions.
New Impact Knockouts Tag Team Champions, Jordynne Grace and Rachel Ellering
Impact’s Rebellion also saw new Knockouts Tag Team Champions crowned when Jordynne Grace and Rachel Ellering defeated the former champions, Fire’N’Flava. The match itself was a very good back-and-forth match. It saw Ellering pin Kiera Hogan to pick up the victory for her team.
This was the first time Grace and Ellering have teamed together in Impact. They also had Jazz in their corner and when you have someone of that caliber cheering you on, you’re already ahead. This was a good match and one as a fan, I enjoyed. It should be interesting to see where Impact goes from here.
Trey Miguel and Sami Callihan, Great Rivals, Better Teammates?
Trey Miguel and Sami Callihan had a massive Last Man Standing match at the show. This match saw everything, a lot of dangerous spots, a lot of weapons, and was overall a very hard-hitting fight between two men who wanted to beat the hell out of each other. It ended when Miguel hit a cutter on Callihan outside through the table.
Something that was teased a few weeks back on Impact was a tag team forming between the two. Callihan came to the save and helped Miguel take out XXXL. Trey Miguel and Sami Callihan put on a hell of a match tonight, however, it should be interesting to see if they continue their rivalry or head on a different path of becoming the Impact Tag Team Champions together.
Taylor Wilde Returns
The Impact Knockouts Championship was on the line tonight between Deonna Purrazzo and Tenille Dashwood. They had a very good match that saw a lot of outside interferences from both women’s corners. Purrazzo picked up the victory over Dashwood and remains the Impact Knockouts Champion.
After the match, Purrazzo, Kimber Lee, and Susan beat up Tenille in a three-on-one situation. Taylor Wilde returned to make the save. She quickly made it known that she has gold in her sights. It looks like we know what’s next for the Impact Knockout’s Champion, a match with one of the original Knockouts, Taylor Wilde.
Impact Has No World Champion
The main event saw arguably one of the biggest in wrestling history. It saw two competitors from rival promotions fighting for all the gold in one huge match. Rich Swann and Kenny Omega put on a great match. However, in the end, Kenny Omega picked up the victory over a very game Rich Swann.
This means that an AEW wrestler is now the Impact World Champion. This leaves many questions for Impact to answer. The main one being, what happens now? Their top championship is now on a rival promotion.
