Love them or hate them, the Bella Twins have made a significant impact in women’s wrestling.

While this could be debated by some (and has been on social media), in my opinion both Brie and Nikki played a part in the Women’s Revolution. Whether you believe it was a large or small part, varies between fans.

For anyone that follows the Twins on social media, the ladies are clearly ramping up for an in-ring return. In fact, some reports have indicated they could make a comeback later on in 2021.
While WWE is currently making strides to ramp up the women’s tag team division by partnering up talents like Nattie and Tamina, Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke, as well as Naomi and Lana; this area within the women’s division has lagged, despite the introduction of women’s tag titles in 2019. It’s felt like a start-stop process since these championships debuted. There have been times when a women’s tag division felt some momentum, but then the rug would be pulled from underneath it all.

The success of any tag team depends largely on the chemistry they share and how they work together in the squared circle, whether you are talking male or female. There have been women’s tag teams that have felt “right” (looking at you, Hug ‘N’ Boss Connection, Kabuki Warriors, and IIconics), and then some that don’t feel so right.

At this point time, I’m not “feeling” the women’s division. I have complete and utter respect for all the talented women who are trying their best to place a spotlight on the tag titles and help to elevate them within storylines; however, I am not invested in that special something between current tag champs, nor their contenders. In some ways, these women’s tag teams feel “forced” together. The true success with any tag team, regardless of gender, is their ability to form organically. Storylines need to explain a reason why two people decide to ditch singles competition for the pursuit of tag team action. This was not the case for most of the female tag teams that have formed as of late.

The WWE Women’s Tag Titles were created for bonafide tag teams like the Bella Twins. Brie and Nikki work well together and always have. They have a history together, they are family, do have a very large fan following, and would place a spotlight to help elevate the women’s tag team titles. Especially, if their “return” was written in a way that the championships were the focus of why they stepped away from motherhood and other projects to step back into the ring; this already seems like what is being crafted. Plus, as mainstream media darlings, The Twins’ WWE return would be news, and their want and need to fight for the women’s tag team championships means those titles would also take center stage.

The Bella Twins have accomplished significant goals within the WWE over their years. Adding women’s tag team champions would sweeten the pot. Moreover, a storyline anchored with those tag titles as something that is missing from their WWE Hall of Fame resume would certainly shine a light on the division and the championships; something that has been needed for a long while.
