Why AEW Dynamite Needs More Paul Wight Besides Just Commentary

Paul Wight (FKA as the Big Show) signing with All Elite Wrestling earlier this year sent shockwaves throughout the wrestling world. With a legendary career spanning over three decades in both WWE and WCW, Wight has undeniably become one of the most recognizable faces in the history of pro wrestling.

Unfortunately, AEW has failed to capitalize on this outside of their Monday night Youtube show, as Wight has not appeared on AEW: Dynamite since March, something that should change in order to increase viewership and overall interest in Dynamite.

AEW could stand to feature Paul Wight more on their weekly programming.

I see Paul Wight in AEW the same way I see Sting or Christian Cage: a recognizable face from WWE that was brought in with the goal of putting the spotlight on up-and-coming talent. On one hand, Wight has done that by providing commentary with Tony Schiavone on AEW Dark: Elevation. On the other hand, it feels like a missed opportunity to have such a recognizable star in wrestling doing commentary on a Youtube show as opposed to regularly appearing on national television. I mean the guy had his own show on Netflix!

Having Wight on Dynamite from time to time would be a breath of fresh air for the show. Anyone flipping through channels on a Wednesday night who happens to see Big Show is likely to stick around to see what he’s doing outside of WWE. He could do commentary, backstage segments like what we saw with The Acclaimed on Elevation recently, or, hopefully, soon step back into the squared circle the first time inside an AEW ring.

In a recent interview with WrestleZone, Wight stated that his desire to wrestle in AEW has increased by being on commentary for Elevation, even to a point of mentioning it on air. There are so many potential great matches to be had for Wight in AEW and, of course, who can forget the highly anticipated match against Shaq that’s over five years in the making.

Eight weeks into Paul Wight’s time in AEW and there is still so much potential for the giant in the promotion. A switch-up of the commentary team on Dynamite would be really refreshing, too, as Wight has shown strong chemistry with Tony Schiavone on Elevation. Managing a tag team or wrestler that has impressed him on Elevation would be another great way to put the spotlight on more up-and-coming talent on TNT. And of course, the dream match with Shaq is always a possibility for Paul Wight, all on the brand’s “big show”, Dynamite.
