Apollo Crews (c) vs. Big E vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn [Intercontinental Championship]

This fatal four-way match has already been teased in the past two weeks. Instead of booking a one-on-one rematch between Crews and Big E, this fatal four-way alternative is a clever booking methodology to protect Big E in defeat before he gradually moves on to the main event scene to compete for Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship. It also maintains the continuity of Apollo Crews’ Intercontinental Title reign and character development on the road to SummerSlam.

Indeed, Apollo Crews will retain the Intercontinental Championship in this fatal four-way match because he only recently won the title from Big E at WrestleMania 37 and will hold it until SummerSlam, at least. Since Cesaro will definitely lose to Roman Reigns at this PPV, he will be the one to dethrone Apollo Crews at SummerSlam to win his first Intercontinental Title as a consolation prize for losing his spot in the main event scene.

Foolproof Prediction: Apollo Crews

Sheamus (c) vs. Humberto Carillo [United States Championship]

This title match is a strong candidate for a kickoff match because of the challenger’s lack of believability as a threat to Sheamus. Due to his lack of credibility in the midcard division on Raw, Humberto Carillo’s chances of dethroning Sheamus for the United States Championship is as likely as the New York Mets winning another World Series in the next ten years. There’s even a chance that Mansoor gets added to this match, but his credibility vanished once he lost his debut match on Raw last week.

It is understandable that Sheamus is a heel who will tease open challenges each week just to not deliver on his promise. However, the main reason many fans wanted Sheamus to become U.S. Champion was because of his killer matches before he won the title. It was expected that he would use the U.S. Title to continue having these killer matches to elevate the other midcarders on the roster, such as Ricochet, Damian Priest, and Mustafa Ali.

Since the majority of those stars are unfortunately on Main Event, that seems to be unlikely. If Keith Lee does not return in time to win the title that was originally planned to be his in February at the Elimination Chamber PPV, Braun Strowman will be the one to dethrone Sheamus as a consolation prize for losing in the main event scene to Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at this PPV.
