The Young Bucks: The master trolls of AEW and wrestling
By J.C.
The Young Bucks have consistently been the subject of praise and ridicule since the beginning of their wrestling careers. They have evolved over the years and that evolution has culminated with them as the top tag team in AEW.
Now entrenched as heels, they have stepped up their game and have continued to get reactions from crowds both in the arena and on social media. All of it has been a part of their master plan as competitors in AEW, and the fans have played right into their hands.
The Young Bucks have mastered getting reactions from wrestling fans.
From the very beginning, the Young Bucks gained mixed reactions with their acrobatic, nonstop wrestling style. The tag team brothers used their over-the-top wrestling style to develop their character, rather than having character development that is separate from what they do in the ring.
All of that changed recently, with the brothers taking on a new attitude in and out of the ring. The change was a major step in the master plan. Even though Don Callis is nicknamed “The Invisible Hand”, it is clear the Young Bucks have become the conductors of trolling.
These new antics have proven to be successful in furthering that wedge under the fans’ skin. The Young Bucks have consistently gained organic reactions from their tactics, be it during a show or by simply changing their bio on Twitter. They always gained a reaction in some shape or form.
For example, the reaction to them doing a parody of Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair’s WrestleMania XXIV moment during their match against SCU was met with criticism from wrestling fans on social media. If fans did not like that, they will surely not like whatever they may have planned next.
They gain reactions across the board from people who watch AEW weekly, and some fans who may not watch the program at all. Most of the time, it results in them being a trending topic on Twitter on a consistent basis.
That kind of power to get reactions from all kinds of fans and get them talking, even if it is negative, is the goal. Even as this article is being written and as a person reads this, the Young Bucks have most likely done something again that got people talking.
These brothers know what they are doing and they have mastered striking while the iron is still hot to keep shaping this new element to their legacy. They did not have to search for the button extremely hard; fans practically gave them the button and they will keep pressing it until they are ready to stop.
Under normal circumstances the advice would be: “ignore the troll and don’t give them attention”, but in this case, the Young Bucks on AEW has been fed to the point they do not even wait anymore. They demand it because they know they can press that button and get any reaction they desire with them being in complete control.
