Report: Will Ospreay injured, IWGP World title vacated

News broke early Thursday morning that Will Ospreay has suffered a neck injury that will force him to vacate the IWGP World Heavyweight title. New Japan posted the information to their website, noting that there is not a timetable for his return, but will head to the United Kingdom for treatment and rehabilitation.

At just 28-years of age, Ospreay is widely considered to be one of the best performers in the professional wrestling industry today. While his victory over Ibushi was controversial because of the suddenness of it, it still came at a point in which he was elevating himself to some of the best wrestling available in the business. That victory came back at NJPW Sakura Genesis after a 30-minute contest between the two.

Ospreay would go on to defend that title against Shingo Takagi at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku in early May. That match would last 45 minutes and is considered one of the front runners for the best match of 2021.

Ospreay has held several titles not only in New Japan but across other organizations as well. He is still currently the RevPro Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, a belt that he is held for more than 461 days. Along with that, he is a former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, NEVER Openweight Champion, Progress champion, Ring of Honor World Television champion, and many more.
