Three things AEW fans want to see from the upcoming Rampage show
AEW Rampage needs to find the right balance between showcase matches and competitive bouts.
With Dark and Elevation, AEW has its version of WWF Wrestling Challenge, Superstars of Wrestling, or any 80s syndicated program you can think of. Those shows are primarily a vehicle to give its star wrestlers definitive victories before they wrestle on Dynamite or an upcoming PPV.
Obviously, there is nothing wrong with this: these matches allow wrestlers a chance to get their moves over in a low-stakes environment. Plus, sometimes fans just want to see their favorite wrestlers hit their signature offense and win.
However, these sorts of matches can become monotonous, as any critic of the AEW web shows will tell you, which is why Rampage needs to also include well-promoted, competitive matches between stars, as well.
Of course, they likely shouldn’t do this too often with the big stars, as the promotion would probably prefer to save those money matches for Dynamite, the quarterly specials, and PPVs, but, again, setting up some big matches between some of the younger talent that exceed the 10-minute mark would go a long way toward convincing fans that this isn’t a televised edition of the stuff that already exists.
