AEW: Five things that must happen at Double or Nothing
It’s hard to believe that this will be the third Double or Nothing event by AEW. The Covid-19 Pandemic robbed AEW fans of the second one, which became a good show even without fans. At the first Double or Nothing, Jon Moxley appeared at the end of a furious battle between Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho. Fast forward to 2021, and Omega is the top guy in the company, Moxley is involved in the tag team division, and Jericho is engaged in a feud with MJF.
AEW has done a great job of building this PPV up as a huge deal because it will be their first PPV with a packed crowd. This will also be AEW’s last PPV until November Full Gear. In this article, I will be discussing the five things that must happen at Double or Nothing.
5. Miro Holds on to the TNT Title
Miro winning the TNT Title the way he did was something that I am glad AEW did because he wasn’t seen as a threat in AEW. AEW’s goal for the rest of the year should be to make sure that the Bulgarian destroys everyone in his way. Lance Archer is a future world champion, but his time isn’t now, and he must lose at Double or Nothing to Miro in a hard-hitting match. This match is kind of hard to get into because there is no true babyface in this match. Miro needs this win more than Lance, and this needs to begin his reign of terror on the AEW roster.
4. Anthony Ogogo knocks Cody Out
Cody Rhodes is one of the best wrestlers and storytellers in the ring, and on Sunday, he must tell a story to the audience once again. Anthony Ogogo is a former boxer who is still in the beginning stages of his professional wrestling career. He needs to be built as a monster heel who knocks people out in short matches. I know fans probably don’t want to see a Rocky-type storyline, but this would be the best way to build Anthony as a monster heel in AEW. The fans should be excited that Cody will be turning in the American Dream for one night and paying homage to his legendary father. AEW USA Vs. The UK storyline hasn’t been the best, but I am sure Cody will do what’s right and go out there and allow Anthony Ogogo to look strong in his first big AEW match.
3. Christian Cage wins Casino Battle Royal
AEW has yet to announce the last spot in the Casino Battle Royal, but that doesn’t matter because this match is about Christian Cage. Christian is the biggest star in this match. A feud between Christian and Kenny is something that wrestling fans worldwide would like to see. That match has main event PPV quality to it. It is time for Christian to be pushed as a serious threat to Kenny’s world title reign. Even if Christian doesn’t win the title, the build to a Kenny and Cage match will make for some great AEW television.
2. Britt Baker wins Women’s Title
Hikaru Shida has been AEW women’s champion for one year now and has been a great women’s champion. Shida has done a great job of building the AEW women’s division up as being taking seriously after the first couple of months of the division wasn’t going well. Britt Baker has been a star since the beginning of AEW, and now is the time for her to shine and become the champion that fans knew she would become. Britt winning the title could lead to a second match with Thunder Rosa, wrestling fans on their feet. This match will be one of the most important matches in the AEW women’s division short history.
1.The Pinnacle Wins Stadium Stampede
The stipulation of Stadium Stampede says that Inner Circle must split up forever should they lose to The Pinnacle. MJF is the future of AEW, and this feud with Y2J should go into the summer with MJF and Y2J having multiple matches against each other. At blood and Guts, Sammy Guevara submitted to save Y2J, even though Chris was tossed off the cage anyway. This Sunday, AEW should have Y2J try to save Sammy, which cost The Inner Circle the match Sunday. This Sunday, MJF needs to send a mission to the AEW roster that he is the top guy in the company and doesn’t need the belt to prove it.
