WWE Raw Predictions: Eva Marie Will Get Charlotte Flair Over
By Mark Justice
Red will soon become every wrestling fan’s least favorite color. On this week’s episode of WWE Raw, there are two scheduled matches. The two scheduled matches are Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston in a WWE Championship Number One Contender’s Match and Shayna Baszler vs. Reginald in an Intergender Match. Also, Charlotte Flair defeated Asuka last week to become the number one contender for Rhea Ripley’s Raw Women’s Championship at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021. Will Rhea Ripley bow down to Charlotte Flair? Or will there be a loophole involving Eva Marie?
Indeed, WWE is four weeks away from WWE Hell in a Cell 2021. There is one scheduled match for this PPV event, as of this writing: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair for the Raw Women’s Title. Based on WWE’s recent bookings on Monday Nights, it is expected that the following title matches will be built up for the PPV: Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Drew McIntyre for the WWE Title, Sheamus (c) vs. Damian Priest for the U.S. Title, AJ Styles & Omos (c) vs. RKBro for the Raw Tag Titles, and Natalya & Tamina (c) vs. Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke for the Women’s Tag Team Titles.
With that being addressed, it’s now time to preview and predict the matches and segments that will occur on this week’s episode of WWE Raw.
WWE Raw is scheduled to take place on May 31, 2021, at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT live on the USA Network. Here are some predictions for this week’s show.
Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston [WWE Championship Number One Contender’s Match]
On this week’s WWE Raw, Drew McIntyre and Kofi Kingston are scheduled to battle in a high-stakes showdown to determine the official number one contender for Bobby Lashley’s WWE Championship at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021. As predicted last week in Daily DDT’s edition of WWE Raw Predictions, Drew McIntyre will replace Kofi Kingston even though Kingston already earned his one-on-one title shot after pinning the WWE Champion, Bobby Lashley, in a non-title match. As expected, the WWE continues to bend and break the rules they have set in place.
Our Chris Jeter discerned that WWE Raw featured a lot of longer matches last week, and Drew McIntyre vs. Kofi Kingston was one of those matches. Why did McIntyre goad Lashley to the ring instead of focusing on his opponent, Kofi Kingston, in the ring? Drew McIntyre welcomed interference in his match when he could have simply defeated Kingston to get his one-on-one title shot against Lashley. Not to mention, no wrestler in this company should ever have to take one’s eyes off a former WWE Champion like Kingston, who has been in this company for over 10 years.
Despite the fact that said 30-minute match ended inconclusively and thereby wasted everyone’s time, McIntyre and Kofi had great chemistry in the ring and will very likely replicate that performance on this episode, hopefully with a definitive result. At the end of the day, Kingston is in this spot mostly because Braun Strowman is injured and could not continue his feud with McIntyre in pursuit of Bobby Lashley’s WWE Title. As was done in the case involving Mustafa Ali two years ago, Kingston is booked here as an unceremonious Plan B for Braun Strowman.
In a similar manner to how Charlotte defeated Asuka to earn her title shot against Ripley, McIntyre was supposed to defeat Strowman in order to earn his title shot against Lashley since they were the challengers for the WWE Title at WrestleMania Backlash. The idea of “KofiMania 2” is an illusory means to get the fans hyped up for nothing. Kingston only defeated Lashley in order to abruptly regain his credibility, and this is WWE’s way of feeding someone credible to McIntyre so that he looks strong and worthy of his inevitable title match against Lashley at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021.
Prediction: Drew McIntyre
Shayna Baszler vs. Reginald (w/Nia Jax) [Intergender Match]
On this week’s WWE Raw, Shayna Baszler is scheduled to battle Reginald in an Intergender Match. Why is Reginald getting more in-ring time and TV time than ninety percent of the Raw Women’s Division? Although it is understandable that Baszler has been aggravated about Reginald interfering in her matches, there is a plethora of talent in the Raw Women’s Division who Baszler can have a match within three hours of this “flagship show”. A match against Reginald takes away time that could be used for women’s division matches and is thereby inessential.
On top of this match being a waste of time, Baszler has already taken more losses than anyone in that Raw Women’s Division this year. If she takes a loss to Reginald here via pinfall, submission, or even disqualification due to interference by Nia Jax, it will be one of the most asinine booking decisions on this show. The only correct way to book this is to assure that Baszler defeats Reginald via submission in less than a minute in order to help regain her momentum for her inevitable feud with Nia Jax on the road to WWE SummerSlam 2021.
Prediction: Shayna Baszler
What’s Next For Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair?
Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair are scheduled to battle for the Raw Women’s Championship at WWE Hell in a Cell 2021. The history between these two superstars is of paramount importance and Hell in a Cell is the ideal place to end a feud like this one. However, there is a caveat to keep in mind. It has been rumored that Eva Marie is not expected to wrestle but is instead scheduled to put another female talent over as a manager. The IWC’s vitriol for Eva Marie is probably 10 times worse than its vitriol about Charlotte Flair, so she could feasibly put Charlotte over.
Alternatively, since they are all associated with the gimmick involving the flexing of their muscles, Eva Marie could get Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke over and help them win their first tag team titles. Eva Marie was actually supposed to team with Mandy Rose as “Red N’ Gold” in her first run with the WWE back in 2016. It would be quite a coincidence to see them come full circle and finally work together in the spotlight. However, Charlotte Flair needs Eva Marie more, right?
