AEW: Why Darby Allin should be the one to defeat Kenny Omega?

Another match, another title defense for AEW champion Kenny Omega. Omega successfully retains his AEW championship against Orange Cassidy and Pac at Double or Nothing on May. 30. And he will face Jungle Boy next week on AEW Dynamite. But after that, who should face Omega and be the one to beat him? The obvious answer to most wrestling fans is Hangman Page. But I will suggest another name that should beat Omega and become the fourth AEW champion in the company’s history. That person is Darby Allin.

Despite losing his TNT title to Miro on the May 12th edition of Dynamite, he has not lost in a match since Nov. 18, 2020, in a tag team match with Cody Rhodes against Brian Cage and Ricky Starks. The last singles match he lost was against Jon Moxley for the AEW title on July. 30. His 2021 win/loss singles record is 10-1. And his overall record in his AEW career so far is 33-14-1. His momentum is growing after winning his tag team match with Sting against Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky at Double or Nothing.

Some of you might say what about Hangman Page or Jungle Boy?  Jungle Boy just won the Casino battle royal at Double or Nothing. That win allows him to face Omega for the championship next week. He’s obviously not going to beat Omega because Jungle Boy is not ready for a world title run and now is not the time for Omega to lose the belt.

What about Hangman Page?

Everyone thought that Page would be the one to dethrone Omega. At the time, that made sense. Omega and Page were the tag team champions at the beginning of 2020. They lose their belts at All Out to FTR. And they had a singles match at Full Gear. Omega won the match, allowing him to face Jon Moxley for the world title in December, which he won. So, there’s a perfect opportunity for Page and Omega to have their rematch at Full Gear this year with Page winning the match.

They both have the same singles record this year. However, Page seems to be a bit cool down whereas it looks like the opposite for Allin. I know I know Page just won his match against Cage during last Sunday’s PPV event, but it feels like he needs to do more to get a world title match. Part of that is because there were not any regular fans to cheer him. But since the fans are back, his steam is coming back as well.

Allin is red hot already, so why not strike while the iron is hot. It’s the perfect time for him to get another title shot. He may not get to that level again. It can be a benefit if they wait a while for Page. I don’t think they can do the same thing for Allin.

His momentum is strong, and he has nothing else to do. He doesn’t need the TNT title anymore. He could go after the tag team titles with Sting. But Allin should be in the world title picture. After Jungle Boy, I can see an Omega vs Christian Cage match at All Out because that’s a headline match.

AEW will most likely keep their plans of Omega vs Page at either All Out or Full Gear. And I don’t mind Page winning the AEW championship. But I believe Darby Allin should be the one to defeat Omega and win the world championship.
