WWE: Top 10 greatest Intercontinental Champions of all-time
7. The Miz
The WWE Intercontinental Champion must be able to take the title and elevate it to a level that feels as though it belongs at the top of the card. There have been many great wrestlers who have tried, but one of the most fascinating case studies is of the more character-based performers who manage to thrive with the workhorse title: The Miz.
In addition to winning and defending the IC gold, The A-Lister ranks amongst the most decorated and longest-reigning champions in the history of the belt.
There are two facts that guarantee The Miz’s place on this list. For one, he ranks second in WWE history in total reigns as WWE Intercontinental Champion with eight. The second notch in his belt is that he ranks second in WWE history in total days as WWE Intercontinental Champion at 592.
That combination of facts is difficult to argue against, and even puts The Miz in an interesting territory as far as the GOAT debate is concerned.
The Miz has a number of memorable matches for the Intercontinental Championship on his résumé, which is a necessary qualifier for this list. That includes a phenomenal triple threat match at WrestleMania against Finn Bálor and Seth Rollins.
It also features a personal five-star classic of mine: The underrated Title vs. Career Match against Dolph Ziggler at No Mercy 2016.
The Miz was all but universally hated when he began his WWE career, but he utilized the Intercontinental Championship to prove that he belonged. Two WWE Championship reigns later, it’s safe to say that he’s erased all doubt.
A future Hall of Fame inductee, The Miz is arguably the best WWE Intercontinental Champion of the past 10 years—or at least the wrestler who is synonymous with the title.
