5. Chris Jericho

Technically speaking, there is no more decorated a WWE Intercontinental Champion than Chris Jericho. The man of a thousand nicknames is about as connected to the workhorse title as one can be, with a record nine reigns with the title.

Jericho may be outside of the top-15 in days as champion, but it would be silly to exclude the wrestler with the most WWE Intercontinental Champion reigns from this list.

Jericho managed to hold the Intercontinental Title for 311 days, so it’s not as though he isn’t high on that list, either. In yet another testament to his legendary longevity, the wrestler formerly known as Y2J also won the belt 10 years apart: December 12, 1999 and June 7, 2009.

The last of Jericho’s illustrious nine title wins may have been his best, as he defeated Rey Mysterio in an absolute classic of a No Holds Barred match at Extreme Rules 2009.

That reign ended with an even better Title vs. Mask encounter in a rematch between the two legends at The Bash 2009.

Jericho’s list of successful title defenses is seemingly endless, but the greatest hits compare to just about anyone. That includes an underrated clinic between Jericho and William Regal at WrestleMania X-Seven and a legendary triple threat match at WrestleMania 2000.

Jericho also helped redefine the Ladder Match at the 2001 Royal Rumble, and had electrifying title fights against the likes Jeff Hardy and Rob Van Dam.

Jericho has more reigns than anyone in history and a number of classics to fill the time he was on top. That’s as strong a qualifier as any.
