Samoa Joe is reportedly back in NXT but in a non-wrestling role. The news broke on Monday morning from Dave Meltzer during the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio.

Samoa Joe was released earlier this year in a round of cuts that included Mickie James, Billie Kay, and others. At the time, he was working as a part of the commentary team, including working WrestleMania in the days prior to his release. At the time, he was unable to compete, as he was not cleared by the WWE medical team. His last match with the promotion was back in February of 2020, where he teamed with Kevin Owens and the Viking Raiders.

“He has taken a job in NXT, and he’s doing something there,” Meltzer said during the show. “He may be as the new authority figure on television, or he may not be, but he’s gonna be behind the scenes.”

Regal was the General Manager of NXT for seven years.

This comes after an end to NXT TakeOver: In Your House where William Regal walked out of the building, seemingly hinting that his time as NXT General Manager was over. He attributed it to the recent run of “chaos” that was occurring across the show, signaling that he would perhaps lost control. On the media call later that evening, Triple H stated that Regal has a place within the NXT for as long as he would desire.
