Top 3 Moments from NXT TakeOver: In Your House
After bringing back In Your House after decades, WWE brought it back last year for NXT TakeOver. It came back again this year and so did Todd Pettengill (who learned about technology updates in 2021 and not to make Dexter Lumis angry).
NXT TakeOver: In Your House featured five matches, including four title matches. One of the title matches included re-introducing Ted DiBiase’s Million Dollar Championship and crowning a new champion (the winner of said title is questionable).
Shotzi made her return and put Dakota Kai into a planter on the In Your House set. Cameron Grimes went to the mo–really high up on the set to jump down onto LA Knight.
These are the top 3 moments from NXT TakeOver: In Your House.
Mei Ying makes an example of Mercedes Martinez
I could’ve just said “Mei murders Mercedes” and it still would’ve been accurate. Mercedes is fearless person. After losing to Xia Li, she began attacking her with a chair. This was enough to get Mei Ying out of her own. As they were staring each other down, Martinez told her that she wasn’t afraid of her. That would be a mistake as Ying gripped Martinez’s throat. Martinez was able to fend her off with a chair briefly, but that led to the above situation.
This was a powerful moment to show that even someone as strong as Martinez was no match for Tian Sha. Unfortunately, she became an example to the rest of the locker room. Tian Sha are not only to be taken seriously, but to be feared.
Bronson Smash
NXT TakeOver: In Your House kicked off the night with #MSKolossal (MSK & Bronson Reed) vs. Legago del Fantasma. It was a fast-paced, high-flying match from the start. Bodies were flying everywhere.
A couple of weeks ago, the NXT North American Champion came out of nowhere to flatten Santos Esocobar into a window in front of fans. The following week, #MSKolossal kept asking for the video to be replayed. That led to a winner takes all match between the two teams.
During TakeOver, each team took turns with dives. Nothing will top the Bronson Smash that Santos received. Reed sent his opponent through the plexiglass and the barrier! I don’t know why this murder moment isn’t all over Twitter because it was awesome.
William Regal’s tearful realization about NXT
As In Your House was winding down, the ever stoic NXT GM William Regal was clearly upset by the “bedlam” on the black-and-gold brand. He mentions that he’s been there for seven years and tearfully acknowledges that “maybe it’s time for a change”.
It was a very somber, unexpected way to close the show. Maybe Regal is taking a much deserved break. Hopefully, he isn’t retiring from television. It could be that WWE wants to go another direction and have a GM who is more onscreen than behind-the-scenes with occasional TV bits.
There was some speculation after NXT TakeOver went off air that Regal was stepping down or that he was hiring an assistant. Samoa Joe was a name that many fans mentioned, especially after it was reported that he had re-signed with WWE specifically to go to NXT.
Whatever NXT has planned, it’s more intriguing than what RAW and SmackDown are doing. Do you think Regal should step aside? Is Samoa Joe the right person for the job?
