Unpopular opinion: Sami Zayn should win Money in the Bank
You know, I remember a time when Sami Zayn was a man of the people. By people, I’m of course referring to the WWE Universe. Whether it was NXT or the main roster, it seemed like Sami and the fans had a connection.
Scratch that, they most certainly had a connection.
It wasn’t just about his catchy earworm of a theme song, either. The man gave it his all in that squared circle week after week, and the fans did their damnedest to make sure Zayn understood that this sort of commitment to one’s craft didn’t go unnoticed.
Fast forward to 2021 and the same guy is now a raving nut case who thinks there’s some sort of crazy conspiracy going on against him.
My oh my, how the times have changed.
One thing that hasn’t changed is Zayn’s ability to entertain. Whether the guy is doing promos or he’s in the ring, he’s always on.
This week on Smackdown, Zayn goes one on one with his arch-nemesis, Kevin Owens. This time around, the dynamic duo will face off in a last-man standing match. The winner will advance to the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

This probably isn’t a popular opinion, but why not have Zayn defeat Owens this week, move on to Money in the Bank, and win?
Over the years, The Money in the Bank briefcase has been used to capitalize on an injured champion who could barely defend themselves.
In the past, that’s kind of what made it so important.
Make no mistake, I’m not disregarding wrestlers like Rob Van Dam or John Cena who went the traditional route, but I am saying that it does take away from what makes holding the briefcase so special and unique.
And ask yourself this, could you really see a guy like Big E or Drew McIntyre stooping so low as to take the coward’s way out and cash in on an injured superstar?
Even if you could, what’s the point of having a top babyface who is so well-beloved and respected by fans turn into a coward just for the sake of it, with no rhyme or reason?
At the end of the day, Zayn probably won’t be winning the ladder match when and if he is able to defeat Owens on Friday. But after taking into account everything I’ve written in this post combined with all the participants involved in this match and how they’ve been booked as of 2021, maybe he should.
