CM Punk In Talks For Pro-Wrestling Return per Fightful Select
As reported first by Fightful Select, CM Punk is in talks about a return to pro-wrestling, with All Elite Wrestling looking like the frontrunner for where he would land.
Whilst nothing is confirmed at this time, it has been said that CM Punk will indeed be looking to return as an in-ring performer. Fightful Select have been informed that WWE higher-ups believe that Punk is headed to AEW. There is interest elsewhere to secure Punk’s services but AEW seems the likely destination.
As it stands, no timetable for a return or deal is in place, but discussions have been had about Punk’s return to the ring. CM Punk and All Elite Wrestling have yet to make any official comments about the situation as of this writing.
CM Punk was last seen in a match for WWE at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in 2014, in the Royal Rumble match itself. That was Punk’s last night with the company, before walking out. CM Punk has made signing appearances, including at Starrcast in Chicago before AEW’s pay-per-view event, All Out. Punk has also appeared on WWE Backstage as a special guest.
CM Punk: The impact of a potential return
After seven years, could we finally be seeing the straight-edge star make his return to the ring? If a deal is stuck and Punk does sign with AEW, that would indeed be a game-changer for the whole of pro-wrestling.
Punk has his hardcore fans who have been clamoring for him to return to the ring, and of course, how could we forget, the WWE audience that continually chant his name at events over the years. It would certainly be a shot at WWE, taking one of their most popular stars of the last decade.
The match possibilities in AEW are endless; Punk vs. Page, Punk vs. MJF, Punk vs. Omega. He would certainly have no problem feeling right at home.
