As confirmed by Wrestling INC. and Fightful, Ric Flair has been granted his release from WWE.

It has been confirmed that Flair requested to be released from his WWE contract, which was granted effective today. Flair spoke with WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, to make the request.

It has been said that Ric Flair has been unhappy with certain booking decisions. Flair confirmed back in May that he was unhappy with his last storyline on WWE television with Lacey Evans.

Flair told Ariel Helwani:

"“In this instance, I didn’t [feel comfortable]. The one thing I’ve learned is you’re not going to win a war when someone’s got their mind made up. She most definitely didn’t like it, but the one thing that I can say about me is I always said yes. I didn’t want to be that guy that was always going ‘Oh, that isn’t perfect for me. When that was all over, I was mad but now I just look back and say it wasn’t it. This was something that when I got to TV, Mr. McMahon wasn’t there to argue the point with and he had stuff going on, I don’t like to put the pressure on someone if I can’t talk to him. He just made up his mind, I think a lot of it was because [Lacey] was a marine.” Ric Flair said. (h/t Wrestling INC.)"

Ric Flair added to list of Hall of Famers and legends departing WWE this year

Ric Flair joins Mark Henry, Sting, and The Big Show on the list of legends that have departed WWE recently. You have to wonder what prompted Flair to make his decision so swiftly today if he was disappointed with his last storyline a few months ago with Lacey Evans. Maybe it stems from the recent budget cuts or the current on-screen product. Flair no doubt will interest AEW in bringing in a recognizable name.
