Bobby Lashley (c) (w/MVP) vs. Goldberg [WWE Title]

This title match really should be Bobby Lashley (c) vs. Keith Lee for the WWE Title because Keith Lee was the first superstar to break out of the Hurt Lock and was last seen on the February 8, 2021, episode of WWE Raw, which is when Bobby Lashley ‘injured’ him in storyline to write him off television, before returning this month.

It would have also been more rewarding and memorable for a full-time superstar to return and fulfill his storyline with a rival than for a part-timer to return for the cheap pop and ratings spike. Instead, Goldberg is unfortunately next.

As for the winner of this match, Goldberg will win because the Saudi Arabian PPV is coming up in October and the WWE would very likely want him to walk into that PPV with the WWE Title in order to drop it to “someone else.”

That “someone else” will probably be another part-timer like Edge. The WWE likes doing Spear vs. Spear matches, and Edge is still on the hunt for the title he never lost. Since he is on SmackDown chasing a Universal Title he never won, it would be wiser to send him back to Raw and chase the WWE World Heavyweight Title that was merged in 2013.

Rapid Fire Prediction: Goldberg

Roman Reigns (c) vs. John Cena vs. Finn Balor [Universal Title]

This title match really should be Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kingsuke Nakamura for the Universal Title because Nakamura’s KOTR victory should translate to the world title opportunity that he never received after being screwed in that gauntlet match in January 2021. Booking this way would make Nakamura’s victory matter.

Nonetheless, the official title match is Roman Reigns (c) vs. John Cena for the Universal Title. The big problem here is that Reigns does not need Cena to put him over, especially since the deed was already done at No Mercy 2017.

As can be substantiated from their average-at-best match at No Mercy 2017, the WWE probably realized that a match between Reigns and Cena would underdeliver for the main event of SummerSlam due to both superstars’ limited move sets.

Henceforth, the inclusion of Balor in the contract signing for this feud should lead to him being added to this title match, especially since Balor has SummerSlam history with the Universal Title and would add that extra flair to the match with his expansive move set (i.e. all of those dropkicks).

However, booking Balor and Cena in a match of their own at SummerSlam would have been better because it would have elevated Balor as the next contender for Reigns at the next PPV. Since Cena illegally wrote his signature on the contract under Balor’s printed name, taking both men out of the title match to battle at SummerSlam in a number one contender’s match would still make sense. However, that’s too creative for WWE to handle. As for the winner of this match, Roman Reigns will win. That’s not a prediction. That’s a rapid-fire prediction.
