So, what IS bad booking, anyway? How about booking a guy like Bray Wyatt to drop the WWE Universal Championship to Goldberg. What made this such a bad decision, you ask? Well, to be honest, had this been the year 1998 and Bill Goldberg was still spearing the spines off of his adversaries left and right on a weekly basis, it’d be safe to say no one would have had an issue.

One problem, though. The match didn’t take place in the year 1998. Instead, Wyatt and Goldberg clashed at Super ShowDown in 2020. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Goldberg isn’t exactly a spring chicken anymore and while he can still bring the intensity, his wrestling career is winding down.

If the roles were to have been reversed and Wyatt retained, there’s no doubt the win would’ve elevated The Fiend to an all-new height of heights, making him a much bigger star in the process.

Instead, Wyatt took the L and while most wrestling fans were upset with the decision, The Feind’s loss to Goldberg wasn’t all that surprising, given the two wrestlers’ track records.

Want a real shocker? Look no further than the return of The Man herself, Becky Lynch.

To quote Bianca Belair, The Man’s long-awaited return to the squared circle was… “bittersweet“.

The return itself was sweeter than rock candy, the 26-second squash match that followed was about as bitter as your ex-fling after discovering you’ve up and found a new “special someone” whilst light stalking your Instagram on a cold and lonely Saturday night.

Excluding the SummerSlam debacle, Bianca Belair has been booked to look like the star she portrays on the TV screen. Still, in some cases, all it takes is one wrong move to stunt the growth of someone oh, so special.

In other instances, it’s the polar opposite. That, of course, being the consistent bad choices that management makes, which consequently ruins a wrestler’s/stable’s value over time.

Shayna Baszler, Elias,  and that whole thing with Retribution are all great examples of this.

Alas, there’s more. Let’s chat for a brief moment about the damage bad decision-making can cause.

Well, for starters it can ruin a highly anticipated return. It also has the power to morph a straight beast into a straight joke. It can make or break a career in a matter of mere seconds and it can destroy the credibility that someone has spent a lifetime trying to build up.

Next. Naomi can be a top heel on SmackDown. dark

Despite the criticism, there are plenty of things that WWE does right. Unfortunately, booking isn’t always the promotion’s strong suit and if you couldn’t tell after reading this article, it plays a massive part in regards to making a bonafide superstar.
