Trevor Murdoch has been a favorite since he debuted in WWE back in 2005. Since that time, the three-time WWE World Tag Team Champion has evolved into a singles competitor. Everything that happened during his journey has made his NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship win that much more meaningful.

Trevor Murdoch being NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion is a major deal for wrestling.

During a non-televised WWE show in mid-2005, fans were introduced to Trevor Murdoch. He teamed up with the late great Lance Cade in a tag team match. It ended up being one of the most interesting matches to never be televised. This was before they debuted on television with the Cade and Murdoch persona.

A fan whispered: who is that guy with Cade?, the response from another fan: I don’t know, but he’s very good. Trevor displayed surprising agility mixed with power to overwhelm his opponents. The crowd cheered as they won their match that very special night.

After his televised debut, Trevor won the World Tag team championship with Lance Cade three times. The tag team saw success during a time when the tag team division was deep. They established a unique identity and style that resonated with fans.

After the team split up, Trevor went solo and maintained a degree of intensity. The fantasy match-up that came to mind was Murdoch versus Kofi Kingston for the intercontinental title. It wasn’t hard to imagine what a match between the two would have been like with Murdoch’s agility.

Fast forward to 2019, he became a part of NWA. He saw success in capturing the national championship and was a consistent contender for the NWA world championship. His mission was to keep working until he hit that next level in his career.

That moment finally came during the NWA 73rd anniversary show when he won his first NWA Championship from Nick Aldis. It’s the first time Murdoch has had a chance to hold the most prestigious title in wrestling in his whole career.

This isn’t the first time someone special has won the NWA championship. Rob Conway won the NWA championship multiple times after a colorful career as a tag team competitor in WWE. Much like Conway, Murdoch was seen as a successful tag team competitor but not considered for anything more.

Trevor was always a man who worked hard without having the spotlight on him. He kept going even if there was not a large parade of fans, bright lights, and pyro. When he came to NWA, it was the first time that it felt like a competitor was truly home.

The NWA Championship has a rich history and heritage that makes it a crown jewel of wrestling prizes. The wrestling world has gone through many changes over the years, but the NWA championship has been around to give competitors a chance to build their own legacy.
