AEW announce partnership with The Owen Hart Foundation
All Elite Wrestling has today revealed they have partnered up with The Owen Hart Foundation. The partnership is to honour the legacy of the former WWE Intercontinental Champion. Hart is considered to be one of the greatest professional wrestler’s of all-time.
The deal will see AEW produce exclusive Owen Hart merchandise and he will also be featured in their future video game. The deal will also see an annual Owen Hart Cup Tournament presented by AEW.
The statement posted via AEW’s social media channels confirmed: “All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and The Owen Hart Foundation (OHF), a nonprofit charity which provides a vast range of assistance and opportunities to individuals in need across the world, are collaborating to honor the legacy of late wrestler Owen Hart, a beloved figure in the professional wrestling community and beyond. This collaboration includes launching the annual Owen Hart Cup Tournament within AEW, which will see the winner receive a Cup known as “The Owen,” as well as the production and distribution of unique and original Owen Hart merchandise, including specified retail goods as well as the upcoming AEW console video game.”
AEW CEO Tony Khan noted: “AEW’s relationship with the Hart family dates back to our inaugural pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing in 2019, and Owen’s influence is still felt today. To extend his memory and his legacy even further through this agreement is a powerful and meaningful moment for the entire wrestling community.”
Owen Hart sadly passed away after an accidental fall from the rafters at the WWE pay-per-view Over The Edge in 1999. Hart was due to be lowered to the ring as part of a stunt, when the safety latch gave away. WWE received a lot of press and legal proceedings from the incident, including from Owen’s late wife, Martha.
Owen Hart’s legacy will finally be honored
It has been a long time coming, but Hart’s legacy will finally take its rightful place on our television screens. All Elite Wrestling has picked up the baton to showcase the legend of the former two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion. Sadly, Owen has never been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, nor is mentioned at all by WWE. This is due to Owen’s late Martha not allowing this to happen after what happened during the fateful night in 1999. Now, Tony Khan and his team will do Owen proud, that’s for sure. Some will say this is another shot at WWE, but it is much more than that. It is celebration of one of the greatest wrestler’s to step inside the squared circle. It will bring a lot of emotion to AEW, especially with many of his peers on the roster who looked up to him. It will no doubt bring the wrestling community together.
