AEW: Who is most in need of a victory in the Casino Ladder Match?
3. Scorpio Sky
Like his tag team partner, Ethan Page, Scorpio Sky is mired in a program that really isn’t hitting on all cylinders and could benefit from an elevated spot on an upcoming card.
Sky hit the ground running in AEW when he replaced an injured Christopher Daniels, and teamed with Frankie Kazarian to become AEW’s first-ever tag team champions.
The rest of Sky’s tenure in AEW has been somewhat of a roller coaster.
He did win the Face of the Revolution ladder match at Revolution earlier this year, earning a TNT Title shot at then champion, Darby Allin. But Sky would fail in his attempt to capture the gold.
This led to a fun program between Sky, Ethan Page, Allin, and Sting that kept Sky near the top of the card for a number of weeks.
But one could argue that Sky has yet to reach his full potential in AEW and a win in this match could catapult him back near the top of the card. It would also cement Sky as somewhat of a ladder match specialist as this would be his second straight ladder match victory.
But alas, Sky suffers from the same roadblock as Ethan Page does, putting him in the ring with Kenny Omega, two people that are pulling off their heel roles really well, doesn’t really leave the fans with anyone to root for, so it most likely won’t happen.
2. Brian Cage
If there is one guy in AEW that is extremely talented but seems to have no direction right now, it is Brian Cage.
When we last saw Cage he was feuding with Team Tazz after the faction turned on him and cost him the FTW Title.
However, Team Tazz seems to have moved on to CM Punk, and Cage hasn’t been seen in a number of weeks.
Cage has got it all, size, strength, agility, and the fact that he just looks like a guy that should have a belt hanging over his shoulder.
“The Machine” debuted with the company when he filled the “joker” role in the last Casino Ladder Match on May 23, 2020. Cage won the match, earning a shot at Jon Moxley’s AEW Title. A match he lost when Tazz threw in the towel to save Cage from injury via a Moxley submission.
Cage is capable of so much more than he is currently doing and having him win this match and then go on to battle Kenny Omega would both make Cage relevant again, and help create more excitement for him as he is still transitioning into a babyface role.
1. “Hangman” Adam Page
When we last saw Adam Page he and Dark Order had just lost their shots at earning title matches with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, respectively.
After a couple of beatdowns from the Elite, Page disappeared off of AEW television.
Page and Omega have built a long-term story, that tracks all the way back to early 2020, and at some point, we need to see the payoff from this story.
The problem is if the plan is for Page to dethrone Kenny Omega as the AEW Champion, and if the plan is for that to happen at Full Gear, then Page is going to need to find a way to jump the line of the top five ranked singles wrestlers and Bryan Danielson.
This Casino Ladder Match gives Page the opportunity to do just that.
While AEW has consistently used the “joker” spot in the battle royales and ladder matches to bring a fresh face to the company, putting Page in that spot here will garner the same sort of reaction, as well as add an interesting wrinkle to the Omega/Danielson story.
Once the field is announced, we will definitely have a better idea of who is going to win this match and how it is going to tie into the existing storylines. But the above five men could all really benefit from the push that winning this match would provide.
