WWE.com has today confirmed that the SmackDown Women’s Championship will be defended at Crown Jewel on Thursday October 21.

‘The Man’ Becky Lynch will defend her championship against Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks in a Triple Threat Match.

Crown Jewel is set to take place at the Mohammed Abdo Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabi.

It will be Becky’s first title defence since winning the championship at SummerSlam, where she made her triumphant return to WWE following a sabbatical due to pregnancy. Lynch defeated Belair in just 27 seconds to win her fourth SmackDown Women’s Title.

The trio will make history becoming the third-ever women’s to take place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Local laws restricted women from competing at the events but that stance has somewhat been relaxed in recent times.

Natalya faced Lacey at the 2019 Crown Jewel pay-per-view becoming the first-ever women’s match. The second came just a few months later when Bayley defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Naomi.

Previous women’s matches in the country have seen the competitors cover all their bodies with special ring attire, it is likely the same will apply for the forthcoming event on October 21.

More history to be made at Crown Jewel

It will be another special moment for women all around the world as WWE takes the lead in making positive and progressive changes within society in the Middle East. It is well documented that women’s rights are limited in the country, but this is once again a step in the right direction. You can’t deny that seeing the females, young and older, in the crowd at these events, seeing the women of WWE in action, shows them that they can be anything they want to be in life. No matter what criticism WWE receives for holding these events, these women’s matches will be remembered forever. This is hope.
