Top 10 AEW Debuts
4. Ruby Soho
AEW All Out 2021 being the best damn Pay Per View in AEW history and possibly ever: Part 2
We all know professional wrestling can be a really dark and cruel place sometimes. For those of you who don’t, please check out Dark Side of the Ring or WWE RAW.
But sometimes, wrestling can be full of pure joy and happiness and when it is, it’s glorious.
And this is one of those moments.
So, why does the debut of Ruby Soho, fka Ruby Riott of WWE rank above some of the other ex-WWE guys like Adam Cole and Malakai Black, even though they were clearly bigger stars?
Well, that’s because of the AEW fans. See, AEW fans care about wrestling and wrestlers. Now, that’s not a knock on WWE fans, this isn’t a war. I’m just saying because AEW rewards their fans and more often than not, delivers on their promises, we as fans have learned to be patient and give the company the benefit of the doubt.
And this fan engagement is what gives birth to moments like the AEW debut of Ruby Soho.
Before All Out 2021, Ruby Riott was among the wrestlers released by WWE. On her Twitter, Ruby uploaded a vignette, announcing her new gimmick of the Runaway, Ruby Soho, a name she had never previously used.
Then, at the AEW All Out Casino Battle Royal, when it was time for the Joker to come out, the crowd immediately started chanting “Ruby Soho”.
Imagine that, it was the first time “Ruby Soho” was coming to national television, and the fans were wise enough to know when she’d debut and how, and they got it. The fans got the thing they wanted, imagine that!
A moment so perfect, it felt like the fans were in on it.
And Soho’s interviews after the night made the moment even more heartwarming. In the post-show media scrum, she was literally crying with joy and talking about how she’d never had her name chanted before and how this was the greatest moment of her career.
She had an excellent outing in the Battle Royal, winning the whole thing and earning a shot at the World title.
Furthermore, Soho had a great exchange of words with the AEW Women’s World Champion, Dr Britt Baker, D.M.D. They had a great title match in the main event of the Dynamite Grand Slam.
Soho is a great addition to the Women’s division, and things are only looking up from here.
Also, on this note of AEW giving the people what they want…..
