AEW: Why Adam Cole should win the Owen Hart Cup
The Owen Hart Cup should be a prestigious award for a new star coming into the All Elite Wrestling, and who better than Adam Cole?
Rewind just two and a half months ago. Adam Cole is in a heated feud with his former Undisputed Era partner, Kyle O’Reilly, on NXT. Rumors of CM Punk and Bryan Danielson going to All Elite Wrestling are swirling. AEW is on top of the world right now with feuds such as Chris Jericho vs. MJF, Christian Cage vs. Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks vs. The Lucha Bros, and more.
All of a sudden, Punk shows up on the second episode of Rampage in Chicago, and Danielson debuts at All Out 2021 along with Cole, whose WWE contract expired just a couple of weeks before he made his AEW debut.
Everybody knows about Cole’s accolades on the indies as well as in WWE/NXT, but what’s next for him in AEW? While I don’t think it’s the best idea for him to go for a title right away, the Owen Hart Cup would be a great place to start for the Lancaster, Pennsylvania native.
For AEW and the Owen Hart foundation to come to an agreement on this tournament, merchandise, video game rights is such a good thing for wrestling in general. We don’t know how many participants will be in this tournament. However, AEW could produce one of its best technical wrestling tournaments ever.
Let’s think about it, Owen Hart was one of the best technical wrestlers in the world, so showcasing the best technical wrestlers on the roster as well as wrestlers from outside companies would be amazing. Names like Cole, Punk, Danielson, and Jericho are the four main names that should be in the tournament.
The names that no one talks about such as Daniel Garcia, Josh Alexander, Brian Pillman Jr, Andrade El Idolo, Bobby Fish, and Colt Cabana are also people who would thrive in this proposed tournament idea. Then you add some big rising stars such as Wardlow, Jungle Boy, Pac, Dante Martin, Ricky Starks, and Powerhouse Hobbs and that’s your Owen Hart Cup Bracket.
While people may not like guys like Punk or Danielson taking losses, this tournament is also about the future of AEW and that’s exactly what Adam Cole is, the future of this business. It would be a great “feel good” moment for him even though he would be a heel. But imagine it’s The Elite that comes out to celebrate with him and then stabs in the back again just like they did in ROH, thus turning Cole babyface?
The possibilities are endless when it comes to this tourney. Who would you like to see in the tournament? Who would you like to leave with the Owen Hart Cup and why? Leave all your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
