AEW Full Gear 2021: Five things that need to happen at the PPV
AEW’s final PPV of the year is one week away. Full Gear 2021 is looking to become one of the best PPV events that AEW has ever put together in its three-year history. AEW is currently riding a significant wave of momentum after signing CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Adam Cole within weeks of each other. AEW’s last PPV was so good that many called it AEW best PPV and the best wrestling event of the year. In this article, I will be discussing the five things that need to happen at AEW Full Gear.
5. MJF Beats Darby Allin
MJF and Darby Allin are two of the best young stars in AEW, and both wrestlers could use a win at Full Gear. MJF is one of the best heels in the business today, and Darby Allin is one of the best babyfaces in wrestling today. MJF should win this match and start a feud with Sting next to have a big win over a legend. MJF is the perfect heel to push in AEW because he’s feuding with CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and Hangman Page can be money for AEW. MJF should end 2021 with big wins over Darby Allin and Sting so that next year, he can focus on getting his first championship in AEW.
4. CM Punk Defeats Eddie Kingston
CM Punk versus Eddie Kingston is a rival that writes itself. AEW has created a storyline between two of the best talkers in professional wrestling today. Eddie Kingston proved that he could deliver when it comes to big matches, and I expect him and CM Punk to put together a match that will smile on hardcore AEW fans. CM Punk needs this win more than Eddie Kingston because his first loss in AEW should be to a younger AEW talent like Ricky Starks, who could use that rub to get to the next level in AEW.
3. Cody Rhodes Turn Heel
Cody Rhodes was instrumental in creating AEW and has proved that when it comes to behind-the-scenes work, he is a lot like his late great father. AEW and Cody should give the fans what they want, and that is a heel, Cody. When Cody left WWE and wrestled on the Independent scene and in promotions like NJPW and Impact, he was a heel and played that character well. It is time for the heel American Nightmare to take his place as the top bad guy in AEW. Cody Rhodes should have a HHH Evolution-type heel run to get fans to hate him.
2. Miro wins The Eliminator Tournament/ Windham Rotunda debuts
Miro vs. Danielson is a money match at any time, but it is even bigger with a future title shot on the line. Miro shouldn’t lose here because now isn’t the time for Danielson to get a title shot. Miro’s heel runs as AEW has been good even though losing the TNT championship can be questioned because it wasn’t the right time. AEW has to be careful when it comes to booking Bryan Danielson because the fans so love him. If AEW has Adam Page win the AEW world title, it would be wise for them not to have Bryan Danielson be Page’s first title defense because the fans could turn on Page. AEW should have Miro win this match, have Windham Rotunda debut at the end, and pick up Bryan Danielson, then disappear. AEW doesn’t have a wrestler on their roster who has the mind that Windham Rotunda has, and that is why he should debut and go straight for Bryan Danielson.
1. Adam Page Becomes AEW World champion
One of AEW’s biggest strengths is long-term storytelling. The best story that they have is Hangman Adam Page’s quest to become AEW World champion. Adam Page has been with AEW since the very beginning and has always been a fan favorite. When AEW first started, many fans thought that Adam Page would become AEW’s inaugural champion, but that didn’t happen. Adam Page against Omega for the AEW world title is the match that AEW fans have waited a long time for, and AEW should give the fans what they want, and that is Adam Page as AEW World heavyweight champion. Adam Page is the right guy to carry AEW as they hope to continue their winning streak in 2022. Kenny Omega has held the title with pride and has had a good title run, but it should end at Full Gear.
