Jay Lethal steps in to face Jonathan Gresham at ROH Final Battle
Ring of Honor Final Battle has a new match as Jay Lethal steps in for Bandido to take on Jonathan Gresham.
News broke on Thursday that Bandido was pulled from the match due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. At the time, the promotion did not announce the replacement. On Friday, Lethal’s addition to the match was announced via social media.
“With ROH World Champion Bandido unable to appear at the Final Battle, ROH officials have signed a new match as part of a double main event that truly encapsulates what ROH has represented for two decades.”
This is a rematch of their contest for the ROH Pure Championship back in April, where Greshamn picked up the victory.
Final Battle truly fulfills the purpose of its name, as it is the last showcase for Ring of Honor as it shuts its doors for an extended period. While it has not been announced as the promotion’s official closing, that is the current perception across the industry.
Lethal was a top star in ROH but made the just to All Elite Wrestling, debuting at AEW Full Gear. He challenged Sammy Guevara for the TNT Championship and has appeared for the promotion twice since. Lethal is a multiple-time champion in Ring of Honor, holding the ROH World Television Championship, Ring of Honor World Championship, and was tag team champions with Gresham as The Foundation.
Gresham’s name has stayed in the news as he’s pushing the launch of TERMINUS: MODERN AGE GRAPPLING. The promotion is preparing for its first show in Atlanta on January 16.
Widely considered to be one of the best wrestlers in the industry, Gresham is also a multiple-time champion. Along with that tag team title run with Lethal, he held the ROH Pure Championship for nearly a year.
Ring of Honor Final Battle is set for Saturday, December 11; available for viewing across streaming platforms.
