Kevin Owens re-signs with WWE, per Fightful Select
Kevin Owens remains with the WWE
Kevin Owens has re-signed with the WWE.
Major news broke on Wednesday as Fightful Select revealed that Owens is staying with the WWE as part of a multi-year deal.
According to the report, Owens was offered what was described as an “excellent offer” to stay. The report also states that Fightful sources were “over the moon” about retaining Owens.
Owens’ deal was set to end in January 2022 after being restricted in 2019.
Owens is an important part of the roster WWE could not afford to lose.
Owens is one of the most popular members of the WWE roster. He is a multiple-time champion within the promotion, as he’s held the United States Championship, Intercontinental Championship, NXT Championship, and a run with the Universal Championship. He’s currently locked into a four-man feud for Big E’s WWE Championship with Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins. They are slated to face each other in a fatal four-way at WWE Day 1.
This is a big re-signing for the WWE. The company has recently lost a number of individuals that were linked to the more-successful version of NXT from years past. Adam Cole joined AEW in September, while Johnny Gargano is now a free agent as of last week. Plus, Kyle O’Reilly’s contract is coming to an end and his next steps are unknown. When coupled with the massive releases that started in 2020, WWE is facing a challenge with big names and depth that losing Owens would have further impacted.
