Opinion: I Admit it, I Was Wrong About Sting Having Matches in AEW

Earlier this year, I published an opinion piece with my thoughts on why I do not want to see Sting have any matches in All Elite Wrestling. Several months later, I can admit that I was wrong.

When Sting debuted on last year’s “Winter is Coming” edition of Dynamite, I was concerned for his wellbeing. Especially since he is past 60 years old with a bad neck. Since his debut, Sting has had matches for the promotion. I can easily say that his performances in AEW have exceeded my expectations.

Tony Khan made it clear that this would not be the same man that we saw in his disastrous WWE run. Unlike how he was over there, whenever “The Icon” is in action, he brings his entire effort here in AEW. Whether if it is a high spot, or taking a nasty bump, or being involved with multiple tag team matches, they all mattered.

I say this because I was not expecting this much out of Sting in AEW. His fans are still here and are still growing with today’s generation. This is largely due to the fact that he is managing Darby Alin. Even as a huge wrestling legend, he is still a draw to lapsed fans and new fans alike.

We do not know when Sting’s time is up in All Elite Wrestling, but I can enjoy the rest of his run. He may end his career in AEW and I can be happy with that. Call me crazy, but I am still lobbying for a match between him and CM Punk to happen sometime in 2022.

Next. Bryan Danielson versus Adam Page far exceeded expectations. dark

All in all, AEW has proved me wrong about Sting wrestling in the promotion. I give Tony Khan credit for making his presence a bigger deal in All Elite Wrestling than he has been in WWE.
