Adam Cole is up to something. That’s not a substantial statement, as anyone with any understanding of his career in wrestling would know that he’s always up to something. But not only is he heading for a title shot against “Hangman” Adam Page, but Cole is devising what could be the biggest coup d’état that the promotion has seen to date.

Cole is All Elite, and not just in name only. He stood beside the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega with big smiles on their faces as AEW welcomed him with open arms. The family was back together. Best friends again. But think about the last time they were all together. The Bucks super kicked Cole out of Bullet Club while welcoming in Marty Scrull. Don’t remember? Bet Cole does.

That is why the developing story around Cole is more intriguing than meets the eye. Last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite made it clear that he’s focusing on the AEW championship. But something else is up at the same time. Jay White, an individual who could be considered a “leader” within Bullet Club lore appeared on the show. He didn’t have much to say, but the Young Bucks had plenty. Asking why he was there and pointing to the past where he and Omega were on opposite sides. Cole played it off but what is he up to?

Adam Cole is building a stable of his own right under the Super Elite’s noses. First Bobby Fish. Then Kyle O’Reilly. Now Jay White. These are all individuals that may be on shaky ground with Cole, but they have a bigger disdain for Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks. The enemy of my enemy is my friend – it’s a popular saying and motivator in the world of professional wrestling.

Imagine where this could go. The timetable for Omega’s return is unknown, as he’s recovering from injuries that plagued him during his Belt Collector run. But the Bucks could turn to another former member of the Elite, Hangman Page. Is will Adam Cole be the catalyst that brings the group back together? This type of storytelling makes AEW enjoyable beyond great matches each week.

Many people were feigning outrage at Cole’s use in AEW. In five months with the promotion, he’s been elevated to one of the highest storylines in the company. It will be interesting to see which path it takes because there are plenty of ways this could go.
