The Undertaker is heading into the Hall of Fame.

The news was first reported by the New York Post Friday morning. He will headline the Class of 2022 set to be inducted at WrestleMania 38.

“There’s no water left in the sponge if I can use that analogy,” Mark Calaway said back in 2020 to the NY Post. “I’ve rung everything I could get out of that sponge.”

Before being known as The Undertaker, Calaway made his debut back in 1987. Much of his early career flies under the radar, but a run in WCW helped bring him the early attention that would lead to his joining the WWF in October 1990. That would be the start of the run that would elevate Calaway as a personality within professional wrestling and one of the few pop culture icons to come from the industry.

From his television debut at Survivor Series, all the way to his final match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36, there are countless memorable moments across The Undertaker’s career. From his initial feuds against the likes of Jake Roberts, Kamala, and Jimmy Snuka where The Undertaker came out victorious, to those later in his career against wrestlers like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar, and others – The Undertaker played a key part in the development of some of the biggest stars in the industry.

The Undertaker is a WWE legend

The Undertaker was a key part in WWE winning The Monday Night Wars. While much of the credit goes to names like Vince McMahon, Steve Austin, The Rock, and Triple H, The Undertaker played a major part as a “secondary boss-type” character that helped further along many of the angles featuring those top names.

His longevity and McMahon’s ability to count on him are reasons that The Undertaker is seen as a locker room leader, even as some of his statements about today’s performers raise eyebrows. McMahon’s emotional comments during The Last Ride about what The Undertaker means to him and the company showed just how close of a bond those two men have, down to the foundations of the company.

WWE has not revealed who will do the induction, that news is yet to come. In the coming weeks, more individuals will be included in the 2022 Hall of Fame class, but The Undertaker will stand out as the biggest name on the list.
