AEW Rampage: Guevara retains and Orange Cassidy advances

AEW Rampage comes to us from Bridgeport, CT.

Sammy Guevara will defend his TNT Championship against Andrade El Idolo. El Idolo has been making a play for the title when he isn’t trying to get “that little kid” Darby Allin away from his “boss, Mr. Stink”.

In a qualifying match for the Face of the Revolution ladder match, Orange Cassidy will take on Anthony Bowens or whatever.

In the #HossMatch portion of the evening, WARDLOW and Nick Comoroto will face off.

Serena Deeb will wreak havoc on another woman during her 5 Minute Rookie Challenge.

More women will be featured when Britt Baker and Thunder Rosa have a contract signing.

Sammy Guevara (c) vs. Andrade El Idolo w/ Jose, Isiah Kassidy, and Matt Hardy

El Idolo is undefeated in 2022. The two traded blows and Guevara hit El Idolo with a pump kick after being hit by a heavy chop. El Idolo avoided a thrust kick. El Idolo did the “tranquilo” pose and Guevara laid across top rope. Idolo offered his hand and Guevara flipped him off. El Idolo and Guevara exchange forearms. Guevara was going over the top, but Idolo got back in and “The Spanish God” hit a standing Spanish Fly.

In the corner, El Idolo pulled Guevara up to the top rope where they exchanged blows. Guevara was going for a springboard cutter, but Idolo pushed him off the turnbuckle into the barricade.

During picture-in-picture, El Idolo hit a snap suplex on Guevara on the ramp. While the champion writhed in pain, El Idolo had the title. After the ref took it, El Idolo put his opponent back in the ring and suplexed multiple times.

After the break, Guevara nearly rolled him up. Guevara went for the GTH, but El Idolo got out of it. Guevara hit a tornado twist over the top rope to El Idolo and flipped off Hardy. El Idolo hit a DDT on the apron. Back in the ring, El Idolo went up top, but Guevara kicked him in the head. Guevara nailed a Spanish Fly from the turnbuckle.

The two exchanged forearms while on their knees. The two were laid out on the mat and El Idolo got to his feet on the 8 count. While El Idolo was taking off the turnbuckle, the ref was distracted and Hardy took the cover off another one. El Idolo was sent straight into the one he was trying to uncover.

El Idolo was trying to pin Guevara and had his foot on the rope. It was hard to tell if Hardy was trying to put El Idolo’s boot on the rope or pushing it off. Commentary couldn’t distinguish what was happening either.

Guevara nailed a Superkick and went up top on the uncovered turnbuckle and his opponent pushed him over. El Idolo went for the Hammerlock DDT and Guevara pushed him down and El Idolo hit his face on the exposed turnbuckle.

Guevara then hit a cutter that spiked El Idolo and he was able to get the pin to retain.

After the match, Hardy attacked Guevara. Darby Allin came to his aid and hit Hardy with tope suicida. Sting clobbered Kassidy and Allin followed with the Coffin Drop.

Before the next match, QT Marshall came out to cry about how HOOK doesn’t respect him. He proceeded to call HOOK out to thank Marshall for everything he taught him.

Dan Lambert said he went to Tony Khan to ask for Scorpio Sky to get a TNT Championship title shot. Sky hasn’t lost in 365 days.

WARDLOW w/Shawn Spears vs. Nick Comoroto w/ Aaron Solo

Neither man got an entrance. Comoroto with a gut wrench to WARDLOW who kipped up immediately to throw Comoroto across the ring. Comoroto was suplexed over the top rope.

During picture-in-picture, WARDLOW knocked Comoroto down. Comoroto answered by driving WARDLOW into the ring post. In the ring, the two trade blows and shoulder tackles. WARDLOW got Comoroto on his back and hit him with forearms. Comoroto was able to slam his opponent to the ground.

After the break, Comoroto flung WARDLOW into the corner, but kicked in the gut. WARDLOW chokeslammed him for good measure. Comoroto reversed out of a powerbomb, but WARDLOW hit the Powerbomb Symphony. WARDLOW pinned him after the fourth consecutive powerbomb.

When the match ended, Solo attempted a crossbody, but WARDLOW caught him. Spears hit Solo in the back with a chair, but also hit WARDLOW’s fingers. Spears then told WARDLOW that the Powerbomb Symphony isn’t over and to “get back to basics”. He said he and Max were proud of him and hugged him.

Serena Deeb vs. Kayla Sparks

On last week’s Rampage, Deeb defeated her opponent in two minutes. Deeb took Sparks down immediately and then hit her with uppercuts and hit her in the gut. Deeb put Sparks onto the turnbuckle and then put her in a submission hold. She then started wrenching Sparks’ neck. Deeb had her in a headlock and Sparks punched her in the stomach a few times. Deeb started working her arms and knee before putting her in the Serenity Lock.

Deeb wins in 2.5 minutes.

Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker are in the ring for the contract signing. The D.M.D. is flanked by Jamie Hayter and Rebel.

Thunder Rosa yelled at Baker before signing her name. Baker told Rosa that she can’t keep her name out of her mouth and implied that Rosa is jealous of her. As Baker signed the contract, Rosa came across the table. Hayter went after Rosa and Mercedes Martinez grabbed her by the hair and threw her through the table.

Orange Cassidy w/Yuta Wheeler vs. Anthony Bowens w/ Max Caster

Orange Cassidy made sure he did not have to climb a ladder tonight before coming to the ring. After Caster rapped, Cassidy took the mic and kicked Caster in the shin. Cassidy was still holding the mic when he took down Caster. He then said, “word to your mother.”

Caster hit Yuta with a chain.  Bowens had Cassidy on his shoulders and dumped him onto the apron. Bowens nearly pinned Cassidy.

In picture-in-picture, Bowens suplexed Cassidy. Bowens held out Cassidy’s arms and kneed him in the back. Bowens took Cassidy down with a clothesline and sent him to the outside. While the ref was distracted, Caster had the chain around Cassidy’s neck. The two continued to attack Cassidy with Yuta still laid out.

After the break, Bowens threw Cassidy into the corner. He tossed him into the other one, but Cassidy rolled out and climbed the turnbuckle before hitting him with a crossbody. Bowens and Cassidy exchanged blows. Bowens spun Cassidy around before dropping him to the mat and hit him with a running knee strike. Cassidy hit a Michinoku Driver, but Bowens kicked out. Cassidy went after Caster and when he turned around, Bowens punched him.

Caster distracted him again and Bowens hit him. Cassidy hit a moonsault on both men. Cassidy hit a diving DDT followed by another DDT. Caster threw the boombox into the ring. Bowens nearly pinned Cassidy.

Bowens hit him with a clothesline. Cassidy was on the outside when Caster came up behind him with a chain. Danhausen came up behind Caster and put his hand on Caster’s head. He then cursed Caster and Cassidy hit him an Orange Punch. Cassidy then hit Bowens with an Orange Punch to advance to the Face of the Revolution ladder match.
