The 2022 Hall of Fame Class continues to come together as another addition was announced on Monday. Queen Sharmell will be added to the hall this year at WrestleMania 38.

“I was so happy,” Sharmell said as reported by Kevin Wong of Complex. “I didn’t even know what to say. It was an unexpected, great surprise – a welcome surprise.”

Sharmell’s career across professional wrestling spanned some of the biggest promotions in the industry, including WCW, WWF/WWE, and TNA. Even though she’s had matches against the likes of Torrie Wilson, Sunny, and Jazz, Sharmell is best known for her contributions as a manager/valet, especially working with her husband and fellow Hall of Fame member, Booker T. During their run in 2006, they donned a ridiculously over gimmick known as King Booker and Queen Sharmell.

Outside of professional wrestling, she reached several other career accolades, including winning the 1991 Miss Black America pageant. She also had a career as a professional dancer, once touring with the famed James Brown. Her dancing abilities helped her land her introductory gig in professional wrestling, as she joined WCW as a Nitro Girl in January of 1999 before becoming more involved as an in-ring performer.

“I always feel a sense of responsibility, and I carry that with me everywhere,” said Sharmell when asked about being a Black woman in the public view. “Who am I not to succeed after everything my ancestors have been through? I’m always trying to carry myself as a person who is respected.”
