For nearly forty years, the WWE has created a yearly extravaganza called WrestleMania. Dubbed the “Super Bowl of Wrestling” by many, WrestleMania sets the bar higher each year and attempts to put on the most entertaining show possible. Over the years we have seen exciting celebrities outside the wrestling world show up to add more star power to the show. However, it is the WWE superstars that make the show memorable.

It’s around this time of the year that the WWE becomes the most entertaining. Knowing that WrestleMania is growing closer every day, the WWE superstars always bring out their very best to guarantee their spot on the grandest stage of them all. Especially when everyone around you is bringing out their best and when as Jim Ross famously said, “the whole world is watching!” The Road to WrestleMania has become a staple of the WWE since the show’s creation back in 1985.

We have seen some fantastic matches at WrestleMania and a portion of why those matches were so good was thanks to the build-up. While there is little doubt that the likes of Edge and AJ Styles could have a great match with no story. However, the story that has started between the two of them continues to build tension. Now, the eventual showdown will be even better to see. As WrestleMania 38 grows near, let’s take a look back at some of the most exciting moments on the Road to WrestleMania.

10. Randy Orton viciously attacks Edge

In April 2011, right off the tails of retaining the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 27, Edge had a heartbreaking announcement. The “Rated R Superstar” announced that he would be forced to relinquish not only his championship but also his career. Wrestling fans around the world cried along with Edge as he had to say goodbye to what he had dreamed of doing since he was a young boy. At the peak of his career, it was all taken away from him in an instant. After his early retirement, Edge was honored by the WWE with his induction into the hall of fame in 2012.

With his wrestling career over, Edge moved on to trying acting. He managed to find success as an actor and started to love his new career. However, Edge always had his foot still in the door at the WWE headquarters. Any chance that he had to make an appearance, Edge was going to be there with all of the fans still showing him love. Despite accepting his career was over, once he had even the slightest hope of an in-ring return. He had to find out if he would be able to wrestle again, even if it was just one more match.

After nine long years away from the ring, Edge was shocked whenever he heard he was cleared to return. At SummerSlam in 2019, Edge returned to his hometown of Toronto to deliver a spear to Elias. Once Edge actually got physical in the ring, the fans started speculating but nobody could have really believed what would happen next. In the 2020 Royal Rumble, Edge made his shocking in-ring return to a massive pop from the WWE Universe. After all of those years, Edge was back and it was like he never lost a step. Edge made it to the final three of the rumble match before eventually being eliminated by Roman Reigns.

The next night on Raw, Edge made his way to the ring to give a passionate promo about being cleared to return to the business that he loves. The business that he felt had been stolen from him. During the promo, Edge’s friend and former tag team partner Randy Orton came to the ring to tease the potential reunion of Rated RKO. With the fans cheering the idea on and Edge seeming to agree, Randy turned on Edge and proceeded to viciously beat him with a steel chair. Randy focused his attack on Edge’s neck and made things very personal.

9. KofiMania begins at the Elimination Chamber

You never really know how things are going to turn out for you. Even if you have the plans written out on paper, they don’t always go to plan. Back in February 2019, Mustafa Ali was reported to be in line for a major push. He was scheduled to compete inside the Elimination Chamber for the WWE Championship. Unfortunately, Mustafa Ali suffered a legitimate face injury during a match with Randy Orton. Mustafa tried to ignore the injury by continuing to compete hurt. Despite his best efforts to continue, Mustafa was forced to give up his shot at the Elimination Chamber.

Mustafa was eventually replaced by Kofi Kingston who had been selected for the vacant chamber spot. While it was disappointing for Ali, there was no denying that Kofi Kingston had earned this opportunity. Since arriving in the company in 2008, Kofi had been one of the most beloved superstars in the WWE. He had won countless championships by this time, but he had never reached the top. Despite getting so close in the past, Kofi couldn’t quite get to that main event position. He knew that this was the type of opportunity that didn’t come often.

Kofi entered the elimination chamber and gave everything that he had to give. He spent nearly thirty minutes in the match before coming up second. The fans were loudly behind Kofi during the match. When it came down to just Kofi and the champion Daniel Bryan, Kofi looked to have the champ’s number on multiple different occasions. Even though Kofi came up short in the match, he had won in more ways than he could have expected. After the match was over, the WWE Universe gave Kofi a standing ovation and chanted “Thank You, Kofi” to show their respect.

After the ovation that Kofi received inside the chamber match, there was no stopping the birth of “KofiMania.” The fans were loudly chanting for Kofi Kingston and showing the WWE management who they were behind. For the next few months, Kofi was put through every through hell in order to get a match against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania. It was poetic that Daniel Bryan became the man trying to keep Kofi down after his own road to WrestleMania. However, we will get to that. Kofi managed to earn his match and win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.
