Britt Baker’s AEW Women’s Title reign ended a couple of weeks ago when Thunder Rosa defeated Baker in a steel cage. Baker’s title run was a good one as she defended the title against almost every credible challenger on the roster. But as good as Baker’s run was, the best thing that may have come out of it is the emergence of Jamie Hayter.
Hayter has served as the muscle behind Britt Baker’s title run and has played an integral part in extending that run for a number of months. But like most hired help, eventually, they get tired of taking orders and decide that if they are going to put in the work, they should do so for their own success instead of the success of others.
Jamie Hayter has already been planting those seeds for months.
Whether it is the barely noticeable scoffs and eye rolls from Hayter during Britt Baker’s interviews or the fact that Hayter never does the DMD hand gesture when Rebel and Baker do it, Hayter has spent the majority of her time with Baker seemingly less than thrilled in her role.
Add to that the fact they have also cost each other victories in matches and this passive-aggressive tension from Hayter toward Britt Baker should lead to a program between the two.
A high-profile feud with Britt Baker is just what Jamie Hayter needs to become a star in AEW.
With Britt Baker out of the title scene for the foreseeable future, the best use of Baker will be elevating other talents. And it makes perfect sense that Jamie Hayter would be first on that list.
Hayter has shown all the qualities that it takes to be a star in her time in AEW.
In-ring performance should always be at the top of the list to make a star. And Hayter plays to her strengths beautifully.
Hayter is a good athlete, but her best quality is her strength. Hayter isn’t a talent that tries to be something that she is not in matches. You don’t see Hayter go aerial much in her matches and she doesn’t try to out quick people. She knows that in 95% of her matchups that she will have the power advantage and she sticks to an offense that accentuates that advantage.
Because of this her offense is very believable and looks good when she delivers it.
And her personality lends itself to Hayter being able to work successfully as either a heel (as we have already seen) or a face.
Hayter is a brawler from the United Kingdom, and that works well as both a heel enforcer as well as a face that is full of heart and never backs down from a fight.
This very characteristic is one that makes a Hayter/Baker feud so appealing. Not only will Hayter be able to draw fan sympathy for her character by being outnumbered against the Baker and Rebel combo, but Hayter fighting through the adversity and coming out of the program with a win over her former employer will do wonders for her popularity and credibility moving forward.
And let’s not forget, there is a very formidable TBS Champion named Jade Cargill that is in the middle of an impressive winning streak. When the time comes to dethrone Jade, the woman to do so is most likely going to have to be someone that will not be overwhelmed by Cargill’s power. Jamie Hayter is one of the few women on AEW’s current roster that fits that mold.
In the coming months, AEW has developed a couple of opportunities to build a new star or two in their women’s division. So, whether it’s winning the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, the dethroning of Jade Cargill, or being put over by the biggest star in the women’s division, Britt Baker, one or possibly even more of these opportunities should be given to Jamie Hayter.
