It’s time to put the AEW championship on CM Punk

It’s been eight months since CM Punk came back to professional wrestling after a seven-year absence. He made his return when he debuted on AEW Rampage: The First Dance on Aug. 20, 2021, and his run has been great ever since.

Punk faced Darby Allin in his first match back at All Out. His first TV match was against Powerhouse Hobbs at Rampage Grand Slam and he also had a great match with Eddie Kingston at Full Gear. His first program since he came back was with MJF.

Now that Punk is done with the feud with MJF and got a lot of experience from wrestling again in the last eight months, there is only one thing that he should do right now. And that thing is for Punk to win the AEW championship at Double or Nothing.

Why is it time for CM Punk to win the AEW championship?

Punk should win the AEW championship because it will be great to see him win the world title for the first time since 2013 after thinking that he would not wrestle again. And another reason why he should be the champ is so he can lose the title to MJF at Full Gear 2022 or Winter is Coming 2022.

Even though their feud is over, they can bring the feud back at the end of the year because they both have one win each in their program. MJF is busy with Wardlow right now, so Punk and MJF will have to wait until they wrestle again.

So, what can Punk do in the meantime? He can go after the world title. With the AEW championship, he can still do the one-off matches that he was doing when he first arrived. But the only difference in this situation is that with the AEW title, he can do the one-off matches without fans getting bored of it because most of those matches would be for the championship.

Hangman Adam Page is a good AEW champion. And he should be the champ again down the road, but it’s the time to drop the belt to Punk. That time should be at the end of May. Punk will elevate the title to another level as much of a job Page is doing right now.

When Punk becomes champion, not only does his stock rise, but so does the AEW championship. AEW can do two big matches on a PPV if Punk becomes champion. One of those matches is Punk vs Bryan Danielson at All Out for the title. And the other match should be Punk vs Kenny Omega at Full Gear if Omega can come back from his injuries.

The wrestler who ends Punk’s reign as a champion should be MJF. The AEW title will have more creditability when Punk is the champ. And once MJF beats him for the title, not only beating Punk two out three times makes him a star, the title is going to make him a big deal in AEW.

The time to put the AEW championship on Punk is at Double or Nothing in May. That win will be a moment in AEW history. And once Punk lose the title to MJF, that will make MJF a bigger star and it will be a great ending to their feud.
