Fans hope for the best with Tommaso Ciampa on WWE Raw
Outcomes are very inconsistent when a performer is called up from WWE NXT onto the main roster. There have been some bright spots like Damian Priest or Rhea Ripley. But there are several names that are struggling to find their footings like Shotzi Blackheart, Aliyah, or the others that were released by the promotion. Tommaso Ciampa is a name that many believed would never reach the main roster, but that has changed as reported by PWI Insider on Monday. Ciampa’s fans will have to hold their collective breath in anticipation of how this situation could go as Ciampa is someone that has all the tools to succeed, if given the opportunity.
Ciampa stepped onto the screen briefly during this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw. He was interrupted by Kevin Owens and Ezekiel (Elias?) in what was a funny segment and hopefully leads to more. There are a lot of roles that Ciampa could play to help offer something different than the bland, repetitive nature that has become Monday Night Raw.
For example, no one would turn down the opportunity to see Ciampa and AJ Styles in a long-term feud with ample time for their matches. What about a pairing of Ciampa and Finn Balor to make a run in the tag team division? That would be something different for both men. We’ve seen Ciampa’s greatness in the tag team division, but we oddly haven’t seen Balor in that role within the WWE – which is something interesting because this promotion usually hotshots the tag titles around without cause.
The worst outcome would be that fans do not see Ciampa on screen at all. He’s proven his worth in NXT, being one of the greatest performers to come from that brand. In many ways, the company should recognize him as the last of the foundation that remains within the WWE. Viewers have seen the WWE “do wrong” by much of the talent on NXT and hopefully, this is another step in changing that narrative.
NXT has had a better track record developing stars for All Elite Wrestling than it has the WWE main roster. But fans should not give up hope on Tommaso Ciampa now that he is a part of the Monday Night Raw crew. He has everything this company could ask for in a main-event performer, so there’s a sliver of hope that he’ll be used in the right way. At least he was allowed to keep his name, for now.
