Tony Khan officially reveals the rumored AEW X NJPW super show, “Forbidden Door” scheduled for June 26th at the United Center.

On the April 20th episode of AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan came out to make a highly anticipated announcement. Rumors had been swirling for a week as to what the announcement may be, with many believing that the announcement may have to do with a streaming deal for Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling content.

After being introduced to the Pittsburgh crowd by Tony Schiavone, TK took a second to address the crowd and then welcomed the president of New Japan Pro Wrestling, Takami Ohbari to the ramp.

However, before TK could make his announcement, he was interrupted by Adam Cole, who made the announcement for him. On June 26th, AEW and NJPW would be holding a joint supershow called Forbidden Door out of the United Center in Chicago. The event will be available via pay-per-view as well, with Bleacher Report holding the show in the United States and Canada, NJPW World hosting the event in Japan, and Fite TV hosting the event everywhere else.

The potential of this show is astronomical and has wrestling Twitter excited

The idea of AEW’s biggest stars matching up against the biggest star in Japan has wrestling Twitter salivating. Potentially getting to see stars like Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, Tetsuya Naito, Kota Ibushi, Shingo Takagi, or Hiroshi Tanahashi match up with AEW stars like Hangman Adam Page, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Adam Cole, Jon Moxley, The Young Bucks, or FTR is such an exciting prospect. Kenny Omega potentially getting healthy enough to participate in the event presents more than half a dozen matchups that could sell out the United Center by themselves.

Tickets go on sale for Forbidden Door on May 6th, AEW Tix or Ticketmaster.
