AEW Dynamite: Preview and Predictions for April 27, 2022
AEW Dynamite is back this Wednesday with another episode and will be broadcast live on TBS from Philadelphia.
With Double or Nothing just over four weeks away, we should start to see some program builds start to take place this week as we head to the pay-per-view in late May.
This week’s Dynamite offers a little bit of everything. The TNT Title will be on the line in a ladder match, two of the most talented women on the roster will settle their differences in a Philadelphia Street Fight, and tag team partners will square off in a qualifying match for the men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. In addition to all that, we will see a 10-man tag team match and two of the most powerful men on the AEW roster go head to head.
Let’s take a look at the announced matches for AEW Dynamite and what to expect from each.
Dax Harwood vs Cash Wheeler in an Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Qualifier
In a match that most wrestling fans never thought they would see, the members of the hottest tag team on the planet, FTR, will go one-on-one for the right to qualify for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
This is the beauty of a tournament like this: Being able to book matches that are not only fun for the fans, but are also very intriguing. There is no storyline needed, it can be a one-and-done match and then FTR can get right back to dominating the tag team scene in the same way they have over the past couple of months.
As to who wins this match? Who knows…..flip a coin. Let’s say Harwood pulls it out in what will most likely be the match of the night. Winner: Dax Harwood
The Undisputed Elite vs Varsity Blonds, Brock Anderson, Lee Johnson & Dante Martin
After a disappointing couple of weeks for the Undisputed Elite, Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly found a little redemption last week by qualifying for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
This week, the faction will compete in its entirety as the Young Bucks, ReDRagon, and Adam Cole are part of a 10-man tag team match against the Varsity Blonds, Dante Martin, Lee Johnson, and Brock Anderson.
This match does two things: it gets some of AEW’s young talent some television time, and it helps the Undisputed Elite regain confidence as they look to back up their claim that no one can beat them as a complete unit. And the five men across the ring from them won’t be able to make liars out of them on Wednesday. Winners: The Undisputed Elite
Lance Archer vs Wardlow
The trials and tribulations of Wardlow will continue this week as we head towards his inevitable match at Double or Nothing with MJF.
Archer being called on this soon in the order of things that MJF is going to put Wardlow through seems out of place this early. Archer is only about a month removed from giving AEW World Champion Adam Page everything he could handle in a Texas Death Match for the biggest prize in AEW.
Feeding Archer to Wardlow is a fine idea, but it feels more like the final hurdle that Wardlow should have to overcome to get his hands on MJF, that way it keeps Archer looking as strong as possible, even in defeat.
But either way, the match is happening this Wednesday, and Wardlow will continue to overcome all obstacles and continue to build his run as a babyface to a fever pitch on the way to Double or Nothing and a showdown with his former employer. Winner: Wardlow
Serena Deeb vs Hikaru Shida in a Philadelphia Street Fight
In what promises to be the blowoff match between two of the most decorated women in AEW, Serena Deeb and Hikaru Shida square off in a Philadelphia Street Fight to settle their differences once and for all.
While the gimmick matches are starting to feel overused in AEW, this one actually makes perfect sense. Given the violent and intense nature of this feud, a street fight feels like the right call in the finale of this long-running program.
The nature of this match really makes it possible that either one of these women could go over. But when you factor in that Thunder Rosa just finished her feud with Nyla Rose and is in need of a challenger for her AEW Women’s Title at Double or Nothing, I can think of no better heel to fill that role than Serena Deeb.
But to lay a claim to that title shot, Deeb has to pick up the win here. So it makes the most sense that Deeb gets the last laugh in her feud with Shida. Winner: Serena Deeb
Scorpio Sky vs Sammy Guevara in a Ladder Match for the TNT Title
The evolution, or possibly devolution, depending on your point of view, of Sammy Guevara’s character, has been quite fascinating over the past month.
Ever since the inclusion of Sammy’s girlfriend, Tay Conti, into AEW storylines, the crowd has turned on the couple. So much so, that the crowd has started doing something I once thought unimaginable: they are cheering Dan Lambert.
As much as it would be gratifying to see Scorpio Sky take back the TNT Title on Wednesday and get an actual run worthy of Sky, it just doesn’t make a lot of sense here.
The TNT Title has lost some of its esteem over the past few months, and a heel Sammy is more likely to make it relevant again than Scorpio Sky……especially considering that we don’t really know if he is in the middle of face turn or is just the lesser of the two evils in this program.
So, the right booking call is to keep the TNT Title on Sammy for now, and then let either Sky or Ethan Page get their revenge at Double or Nothing when they tag with Paige VanZant and take down Sammy and Tay. Winner: Sammy Guevara
