AEW Rampage: Jay Lethal and Samoa Joe are closing in on a showdown
AEW Rampage aired at 5:30 PM ET on Friday due to the NHL Playoffs.
While the main event of Konosuke Takeshita vs. Jay Lethal was really good, the most important segment of Rampage came afterwards. Although he got the win, Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh attacked Takeshita.
This led to Best Friends and Orange Cassidy coming to help Takeshita. Last week on Rampage, Cassidy introduced Singh to his patented kicks.
This week, Trent and Chuckie T went after Dutt and Lethal. They turned their attention Singh, but it didn’t end well. By then, Cassidy finally made his way to the ring. He stood on the apron, staring down Singh behind his glasses while Chuckie T was being choked out. Instead of helping his friend, he and Singh had a staring contest. He threw his sunglasses into the ring which Singh quickly crushed. Cassidy held his hands up like he was going to put them in his pockets, but hopped off the apron when Singh approached.
Just then, Samoa Joe’s music hit. He came carrying his ROH World Television Championship in one hand and his trusty lead pipe in the other. Before he could make it to the bottom of the ramp, he was intercepted by security. Emboldened by security standing between them, Lethal, Dutt, and Singh stood at the ropes yelling at the champion.
While Cassidy may get the first crack at Singh, Samoa Joe will likely have to go through him to get to Lethal. Although Dutt hasn’t been wrestling in AEW, there’s always a chance that Joe has to plow through him too.
Prior to the match when talking with Mark Henry, Dutt brought up the fact that Lethal was the longest reigning ROH World Television Champion in company history. Lethal jumped in and said, “you hear that, Joe?”
With Double or Nothing just weeks away, it seems like Lethal and Samoa Joe will battle for said championship. It’s important for AEW to continue to showcase ROH titles in a significant way. Khan is giving a lot of visibility to the ROH World Television Championship. Putting a match of this caliber on a pay-per-view shows that Khan thinks the ROH Championships are important and will build up fans believing this as well.
