AEW: 3 teams that could be in the Trios title picture
AEW Trios titles have been rumored since early in the company’s existence. Last week, word was going around that AEW had Trios championships made and would be “just a matter of time” before they were introduced.
Prior to Revolution, I was on a media call with Tony Khan. When the topic of the Trios Titles came up, Khan said that he was waiting on Kenny Omega to return. Omega has been out of action since dropping the AEW World Championship at Full Gear last November. His return could be getting closer as he reportedly had hernia surgery in April.
With speculation regarding the former champ’s return, Will Ospreay asked him if he would be ready for Forbidden Door. Omega replied with a gif:
Here are three Trios teams that can could be the inau
The Elite
It seems like waiting on Omega’s return for the Trios division is because he’ll be aligning with his Elite brethren, the Young Bucks. The three have years of matches together and have excellent in-ring chemistry. All three men are former champions in AEW. It would be fitting for The Elite to be the inaugural Trios champions because of not only their history in Bullet Club, but with helping to found AEW.
Along with putting the titles on them, it keeps them occupied and out of the Tag Team and World Champion picture, respectively. If Omega wins the Trios championship, he will be the first wrestler to hold three different titles in AEW.
Blackpool Combat Club
Since forming under William Regal’s tutelage, Blackpool Combat Club have been dominating the unofficial Trios division. Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, and Wheeler Yuta have quickly become a dream team trio and have dominated their opponents.
While only 3-0 at this writing, they will likely rack up more wins and dominate the Trios scene as AEW continues to build up the division. Blackpool Combat Club currently boasts a former AEW World Champion and the current ROH Pure champion. The Trios title would be a good way to get gold on Danielson while he’s out of the World Champion picture.
And how can you go wrong with a group led by William freakin’ Regal?
Best Friends and Orange Cassidy
Yes, Best Friends and Orange Cassidy are currently 0-0 in Trios action in 2022. However pre-pandemic, these three were on a tear in the unofficial Trios division. They appeared to be on a big winning streak. Trent Beretta also got injured and was sidelined for a while following neck surgery.
Now is the perfect time for these three to start racking up some wins. With AEW on track to have a proper Trios division, Beretta, Cassidy, and Chuckie T should be in the forefront of the division. Best Friends have been a tag team for years and work seamlessly in the ring. Cassidy gels well with his friends (no pun intended).
What better inaugural champions than three All Elite OGs?
AEW has a variety of teams such as The Gunn Club, 2point0 and Daniel Garcia, and Proud ‘n Powerful and Eddie Kingston that can help round out the division. They could have a robust, well-rounded division that should be fun to watch.
