MJF vs. WARDLOW is the most interesting story heading into Double or Nothing
A week out from AEW Double or Nothing, MJF vs. WARDLOW is the most interesting story heading into the pay-per-view.
AEW is well-known for long-term storytelling and this feud is one of their longest stories. MJF hired WARDLOW as his muscle. For the better part of two years, WARDLOW has done just that. MJF took advantage of this arrangement and frequently abused his enforcer. For a long time, we’ve seen that working for MJF was something WARDLOW merely tolerated while he bided his time.
The time came at AEW Revolution. CM Punk was facing MJF in a Dog Collar Match. While MJF was laid out on his back, WARDLOW strolled down the ramp and placed his boss’s coveted Dynamite Diamond ring on the mat. He made eye contact with Punk and went back up the ramp. Punk used the ring to pick up the victory.
On the following Dynamite, WARDLOW told Tony Schiavone that he “no longer gave a (expletive)” and he was no longer working for MJF or part of The Pinnacle. He asked MJF to release him from his contract. Of course, there’s no way that “The Salt of the Earth” would allow that to happen.
For the last few weeks, MJF has been making WARDLOW go through all kinds of tests in order to face him at Double or Nothing. He and WARDLOW’s “accountabilibuddy”, Shawn Spears, have been delighting in the fact that WARDLOW must come to and leave the ring in handcuffs.
He is also not allowed to have entrance music. The entrance is very reminiscent of another big man, Goldberg. He is shown coming from the back flanked by security. The fans chant his name and it carries throughout the arena. WARDLOW has passed every single opponent that MJF has placed in his path.
Much like his feud with his “best friend” Cody Rhodes, MJF has laid out stipulations for WARDLOW to get his match. WARDLOW received ten lashings and must face Shawn Spears in a steel cage with Maxwell Jacob Friedman as the special guest referee. Shocking, I know. The match is just days before Double or Nothing.
AEW has done a spectacular job at building WARDLOW from MJF’s muscle to a budding superstar. The fans have been clamoring for MJF to once again get his. MJF has done a masterful job in this story as well.
MJF vs. WARDLOW is one of the most highly anticipated matches at Double or Nothing. Will MJF get the final revenge on WARDLOW for costing him his match with CM Punk? Or will WARDLOW put MJF through the Powerbomb Symphony and gain his freedom? Find out this Sunday at 8 PM ET on all major providers, Bleacher/Report and FITETV (internationally).
