All Elite Wrestling has built a strong roster from top to bottom. Fans want to see more from the women’s division, but one can’t deny the talent that calls AEW home. However, the company is running into a challenge with how the division is booked. One component of that is the lack of solid booking across the division and elevating new names to the top. Britt Baker’s run is facing a challenge as the company continues to push her as a top name, running toward a dangerous situation of Britt Baker fatigue.

It goes without saying, Britt Baker is a “pillar” of AEW. The debate was focused on four men, but she is as important as any of them to both the present and the future of AEW. That was recognized from the jump, and clear in how she’s booked today. But her continued booking isn’t helping much of the division along the way and fans are beginning to get tired of it.

Baker’s 290-day run as champion was enjoyable and had its high moments. Her match with Kris Statlander back at All Out in 2021 and her return to Pittsburgh against Red Velvet were two moments that topped the list.

But from the mid-point on, the division didn’t grow much with her at the top. Outside of Thunder Rosa, new challengers weren’t cultivated to keep a consistent stream of interesting names to face Baker. Fans wanted to see a new champion come and that individual was Rosa. While Rosa’s time as champion has its own struggles, Baker’s continued featured position on the roster is faced with criticism.

She just picked up a win over Toni Storm, slotting her into the finals of the Owen Hart Cup. She’ll face either Statlander or Ruby Soho, another woman she’s defeated and hasn’t regained momentum since. AEW could put Statlander or Soho over, setting up either to be a potential challenger to Jade Cargill, who is also in need of new opposition, but quiet expectations are that Baker will pick up the win at Double or Nothing.

Baker faces the same type of challenge that Charlotte Flair deals with in WWE. She is so important to the company that she is either the champion or in the title picture – there’s no in-between. AEW hasn’t made the same mistake as WWE has with Flair, avoiding giving her meaningless title reigns. But fans are starting to look at Baker in a similar fashion. The company can’t ignore the response to one of its most prominent, home-grown talents.

dark. Next. AEW has a ready-made star in Wardlow

Britt Baker is going to be a multiple-time champion when it’s said and done. But three years into her run AEW fans are beginning to grow tired of her place on the roster. AEW should heed the feedback and look for ways to help the rest of the roster rise, while not looking to Baker to always be the main character of the division.
